Pros

Staff turnover is so high that the chances are anyone you do not get along with will be gone before the end of the year and at least one member of the top brass reached retirement age and went home, as well they should - an absolute horror and bully.

Cons

It needs to be up to staff at XJTLU to continue adding their voices to Glassdoor, as it is the only outlet that we know the regime (and it is a regime, a cold and oftentimes vicious one) reads and worries about, hence the sudden appearance of these enthusiastic reviews in response. There are an epic amount of jobs advertised these days at XJTLU and anyone thinking of applying need only ask why this is - it is certainly not because XJTLU is (per the most recent five star review) discarding "old dated ways" of doing things. Unless these "old dated ways" involve avoiding chaos, having experienced staff, retaining good people, employing PhD-educated Head of Depts and not working under oppressive state censorship and amongst Xinjiang genocide deniers. Frankly, they are unable to retain good staff. Some departments were created in a rush, and I do not need to name names here because it is blatantly obvious, and are lacking expertise at the higher levels, and even they are losing people. I could be a lot harsher on XJTLU but the other reviews on here, including those focused on the notoriously threadbare language school, have said everything that needs to be said. I only hope others will speak up because the University of Liverpool needs to pull the trigger on this mess and soon.

Pros

Aesthetically pleasant campus and a vibrant environment at the SIP campus. The library has very good resources.

Cons

My experience as a foreign professor at XJTLU has been extraordinarily negative. The management of my division has fostered a culture of fear and punishment, undermining operational capabilities, stifling research output, and eroding morale to the point that eight full-time professors—all foreigners—are leaving this summer alone. International faculty have been systematically excluded from leadership roles, teaching assignments are constantly reshuffled to an impossible degree, and with the division unable to hire replacements, remaining staff have been told to expect exponentially heavier workloads in the coming semesters. If you are an international scholar considering XJTLU: don’t. I wish I had been warned before making the decision to relocate here.
