Pros

There are some gems of humans there for real: caring, real, high-performing, supportive, hilarious. All around favorite part of YNAB was the friendships I built with my team and direct managers.

Cons

The core values are meaningless, yet they’re the only excuse given why people get fired (and leadership will change the CV without notice) - they tend to get caught up in words and definitions a lot. Even when maybe the human feeling something on the other side (who they say they care about) doesn’t need an entomology lesson, but to be respected. For years feedback was raised countless times to systemize their internal hiring process yet they refuse so what is left is this whiplash effect, favoritism, and no clear sense of direction for growth. Anytime ANY position opens up internally the literal majority of a very large support team apply (doesn’t seem like a healthy ecosystem if that keeps happening with everything from HR to marketing) I think people here are subconsciously trained to ‘play dumb’ - there is so much of “the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing” and when you think you’re talking to someone with authority or answers the blame just shifts. Toxic positivity abounds Introduced the four day work week yet did nothing to protect the scope of work so that it fit within the new schedule - I never ever got to only work 32 hours / week They tell you what they think you want to hear, but will always act as they need to. I don’t blame them for the second part (it’s a business, I get that) but the gaslighting was too much They made this whole internal effort that “we’re a grown up company now” while simultaneously playing favorites trying to pretend they’re back in the good ole glory days where they all “fit around a coffee table” - pick a lane (or get a room) I once sat in a two hour meeting and watched 8 people all making over 6 figures debate between two very close shades of off-white and still not make a decision. TBH that might have been when I decided I was over this place. I had to learn quickly that YNAB is different for different people. Some people genuinely think there’s no better place to work and it might be true for them. For others I hope you know that if you have doubts or concerns about why things feel “off” or wondering if you’re not good enough - you’re being gaslight and there’s an abundant world of amazing places to work and amazing people to work with so don’t hold yourself back being sold on their mirage. All this pains me to write. I had some great times there and I miss them but things started changing and it will never be the same. I hope they turn a corner and find a new “good” to settle into, I really do.

Pros

Pros: - Four day workweek - Fully paid insurance (including vision and dental) - 401k - 3-5 week minimum PTO

Cons

- CEO and exec team. - If you speak up or out against leadership, management, decision making, or the direction things are going, you are branded a "core value" misfit and either pushed out or fired. - Poor (basically non-existent) manager training. - Limited job growth opportunities. Very flat org chart. - Job responsibilities/scope creep outside of the 4DWW, so you're working on Friday anyway. - Feels like working for a cult. Seriously. And you see it much more clearly when you're out. - Lots of "pretty" core value language, strategy docs, and "company culture" mindset, but behind the curtains, it's a company looking to make money. There's not the loyalty you think there is. - Firings occur with no warnings, no PIPs, and you have no way to defend yourself.
