Pros
Working with the tenants at supportive housing can feel quite rewarding, there is a lot of meaningful work that you can do.
Cons
There was no real support from management to be able to support the people that live at the apartment for long-term change. Many of the women had escaped domestic violence, there were countless men who lived at the building despite that not being "allowed." No action was taken by the building manager to have these men removed.
Women would come to the building, but staff weren't equipped with the resources to support the women with long-term planning so they could move on from supportive housing. There is rampant drug use. It felt like a place to hide some of our most vulnerable.
The building manager would not follow through on his word. A tenant would come to him, explaining an issue in their apartment, he would take weeks to fix it and made the tenants feel bad about asking for help.
Not enough staff to support the tenants well.
