Any student in business school should study iMFLUX as an example of how NOT to manage a tech startup. The hubris displayed by the leadership would be comical if peoples' livelihoods were not at stake. The leadership was simply unwilling to make the difficult and sometimes painful decisions that could have changed the course of the company. Instead, the leaders who were most responsible for sinking the ship were promoted to captains. At this point, the sensible leaders all jumped ship and things only got worse from there. Even a change in CEO netted no meaningful change. Nepotism was on full display. It's ironic that while claiming to challenge the status quo, they actually supported it among their ranks. There is a fine line between fearlessness and foolishness that leadership regularly stepped over. The saddest part of the whole story is that these same leaders will soon sunset their careers in a comfortable retirement, regardless of the fact that this failure is their legacy. Meanwhile, those who were invested in the dream to the end now have to figure out what's next.
