Pros

Working with extremely smart, hardworking, talented, dedicated people who care a lot about fighting climate change. Making a meaningful difference, in that we could point to gigawatts of solar power projects that got built in part because we helped to get them funding. Lots of opportunities to learn, with people frequently giving skillshares and other educational talks about their specialties, whether that's project finance, software engineering, or photovoltaic physics. Management genuinely cared for diversity and work-life balance. Fully remote since 2020, with business done through frequent video calls and constant Slack contact. Unlimited vacation time. Culture of honesty, of making technical decisions by following the data, using evidence to persuade, as opposed to making decisions according to politics or appeal to authority.

Cons

Revenue depending on policy sales, with exposure to the ups and downs of the energy and insurance markets, meant always operating with a tight budget. We had to pivot to follow the market which meant shutting down some good projects that didn't find product-market fit. There were definitely more people who wanted to move into data scientist roles than there were positions available, so advancement opportunities were somewhat limited.
