Pros

Now that it's over, I wanted to take some time to write down some thoughts about mProve Health. Two words and a feeling: Life changing, and grateful. Essentially, my career started with mProve. After a slightly long, but intriguing, interview process, I started. From that point, it was only a few days before figuring out what I was hired to do! (Ok...I get what you must be thinking – Long hiring process? Job uncertainty?...None of this sounds good, so what's up with the five stars? - Hold your horses, we'll get there)! Might have been the new-job glow, or the lack of understanding of how office life works, but just about everything happening early on left me feeling either pleasantly surprised or just plain happy. Mildly awkward meet and greets? Check. Co-workers always willing to listen and help? Check. Interviews with **the entire company**? Check. Opportunities to grow and explore? Check, check, check. (There’s more, but not looking this to be a novel). Never would I have imagined feeling this comfortable in a working setting while, at the same time, getting things done and seeing a promising company change and grow. There were a lot of new people coming in from around the time I began right through the initial acquisition by Bracket. Additionally, we moved offices twice within the first year and a half! As time went on, my department[?...ok, that’s a stretch, but let’s go with it], began to grow, providing more opportunities to document, train, and, of course, add more people into the group!

Cons

As time went on, my department[?...ok, that’s a stretch, but let’s go with it], began to grow, providing more opportunities to document, train, and, of course, add more people into the group! Eventually, mProve was acquired by Bracket, and pretty much kept the charm. Things were still [generally good] crazy, and the office was still a place I still looked forward to coming into each day. About a year later, Bracket acquired CRF Health which meant that, (if you were keeping track), mProve essentially went from 15 people to 1,500 in a matter of two and a half years! Absolute craziness for someone new to the workfront. Taking a trip down [a very brief] memory lane leads to what I hope anyone who reads this can take away as some unsolicited career advice. Although the name, roles, and to some extent, people, changed over the years; I had the unheard of opportunity to start my career experiencing the full spectrum of work environments. This was not something I had thought of too often during the mProve years because, quite frankly, I didn’t know any better. It was not until experiencing the average, and then the subpar, that it really set in just how amazingly spoiling it really was to get a chance to start at mProve.

Pros

I worked with some very bright, talented people and there was a lot of opportunity to learn new skill sets. The casual work environment is a big perk. When things are going well with your projects, the camaraderie is great. I had very formative and helpful experiences with the managers who were interested in my career growth, and I'm very grateful for the work experience I gained.

Cons

Some managers occasionally took an us vs. them mentality against their employees. You're expected to demonstrate loyalty to the company, but that's not necessarily reciprocated. If you decide to take a position at mProve, I recommend a few things: First, grow a thick skin so you can tolerate some unkind behavior. Next, ask for a clear job description and get every aspect of your employment, including benefits, in writing. In general, you'll need to be a self-advocate for promotions, pay raises, and a fair work distribution--it's unlikely that someone else will do that for you, and you're going to have to ask a lot more than once to see results. All that said, I hope that the acquisition will improve some of these issues. I imagine that some of the bad management I experienced wouldn't be acceptable that mProve is part of a larger company.
