Pros

On site gym and cafe.

Cons

The senior leadership team (SLT) and especially the CTO are completely out of their depth. The CTO was brought in 2 and a half years ago to revolutionise the way thinkmoney works and turn us into a true FinTech company. However, after his time here nothing much has changed to improve the system and we are now facing large-scale redundancies which has hit the Tech team the hardest. Looks like they want to “bin tech” as opposed to keeping this at the heart of company. At the start of the year (as is normally the case most years) lots is promised, but as usual its all hot air. So many times, projects start then get pulled due to poor decision making from the CEO/CTO, this is a huge waste of time and effort and leaves the team feeling very demoralised. In August thinkmoney offered roles including 4 developer roles to people who duly handed their notice in with their current employer, only for thinkmoney to retract those offers leaving those poor people in complete limbo. This happened to other roles within the business as well, and has happened on other occasions. This is either extremely poor management or plain stupidity and is an example of how this company operates.

Pros

Wouldn’t join the company in its current state.

Cons

In my opinion, the culture had become increasingly toxic, with very little autonomy for employees. Decisions felt highly centralised, and it often seemed that everything had to be dictated from the very top, (even to the most smallest details) multiple times over leaving little room for people appointed in the appropriate positions to make meaningful decisions. It was also concerning to see so many experienced, long-serving colleagues leave. Many of these people appeared to have been instrumental in the company’s previous success, and their departures had a noticeable impact on morale and continuity. From my perspective, the product no longer feels in touch with customer needs, while leadership appeared uncertain about the future direction of the business. That uncertainty seemed to create significant pressure, which often felt as though it was passed down to loyal frontline employees. Ultimately, I was disappointed that leaving became my only realistic option. I stayed as long as I could because I cared about my role and my colleagues, but I couldn’t continue working in an environment that I felt had become increasingly unhealthy.
