Pros

Independent projects and offers good insight into how environmental non-profits are run.

Cons

Unpaid position in a poor work environment. Interns are hired by campaign associates who are mostly recent college grads using it as a stepping stone. I was essentially tasked with all the things the associate supervising me didn't want to do. I was frequently emailed outside of working hours to complete new tasks that hadn't been mentioned to me before in meetings. The associates and even the managing director were rude and passive aggressive at times during team meetings. They would ask for projects like creating pamphlets to be completed to a professional standard but there is no budget so you have to find a way to do things like that for free which can be challenging. The feedback would be mixed, the associate who the project would get submitted to would express satisfaction with the way the project turned out and then pass it along to the managing director who'd express dissatisfaction with the outcome so there wasn't a clear stream of communication about expectations.

Pros

Gained sales and communication experience going door to door. Baptism by fire, but in the best way possible.

Cons

Walking for a long time in the Texas heat. Bring bug spray and water!
