I have been working at Epic full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Epic's culture is great. It has all of the benefits of being a sizable corporation without most of the toxic corporate/office politics. For example, team leadership/management isn't the only advancement opportunity, nor is it an expectation. if you and your manager think you'd be a good team lead, you transfer into that role slowly, and they actually train you for it! If it isn't a good fit, there's no stigma against...

    Cons

Team leads can vary in their skill and fit with individual employees; though I've had great experiences for almost my entire tenure, I have known a number of former employees driven away by bad team leadership, and a number of current employees who have requested transfers rather than continuing to work with their TL. If this is your first job out of college, and you haven't yet figured out work-life balance, Epic...

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-A beautiful, creative, and unique campus. -Either get your own office or at most share office with 1 roomate -As much micromanaging as you want. You work with your manager to determine what you need to best do your work. There is an environment of complete trust that you will do your work with little oversight. I've always seen my manager as a resource to help me when needed, not as someone actively deciding how I...

    Cons

-Can be stressful at times to juggle all of the deadlines and customer expectations. Customer expectations are high. -The first year is a difficult crash course in learning an entirely new system, and they throw you into the deep end rather quickly. -Your experience can vary widely based on what application you work on, and your manager. -Most of your knowledge and experience is pretty specific to Epic's software and...

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In comparison to living expenses of the area the pay is very good. There is a friendly and competitive working environment. As a whole the company constantly strives to improve its processes and seeks to adopt newer and better technologies. Management will seek challenge you and help you grow in your area.

    Cons

Depending on which application you work on there is a lot of older code written in obsolete languages (mostly just VB6). Competition is pretty high, you may be expected to work more hours depending on productivity.

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Growth opportunity, diverse work, opportunity to work with customers, incredible food Epic has many intelligent employees, great healthcare, and lots of opportunities for growth. They expect a lot from there employees so the job isn’t for everyone. How well people integrate into the city of Madison is a big factor in how well people like the job. I was very lucky to have two talented and reasonable managers in my first...

    Cons

Hours can be long, regulations can be annoying, fast pace can make work-life balance difficult

    Advice to Management

Continue to look for innovative ways to promote integration into Madison. Develop a more robust framework for providing overall career mentorship. Many employees are right out of college and just don’t know much about how to navigate a large company / communicate how they are best managed.

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The employees at Epic are a number of notches above other places. You almost never have to deal with incompetence or laziness. Poor process doesn't usually last long and I feel like anyone has a voice to fix bad process. It is rewarding to be able to help hospitals better care for patients. Very flat corporate structure.

    Cons

Vacation is a little limited for tenured folks. Some of the work can get boring but I'd say definitely less boring than the average job.
