Transition to constant chaos...

Pros

ExtraHop has wonderful founders and technology, still connected to the business. The new owners, Bain Capital Private Equity and Crosspoint Capital Partners have vested interest in helping ExtraHop to succeed. ExtraHop has great health benefits. In 2022, they implemented a 3% 401(k) match. Unlimited PTO is as good as you make it (inconsistencies are noticed depending on departments/ manager).

Cons

ExtraHop is currently in a state of chaos, which creates a culture of miscommunication and mistrust. Unfortunately, over the past few years almost the entire management team was turned over and the culture shifted from people, product, quality focused to cutting, obey, bottom line focused. With that, many valuable contributing employees were pushed out (let go). This leaves many newly established teams (HR, Marketing, Legal, Sales, Finance) and a BIG gap in knowledge and overall continuity. Rather than promoting from within, many new employees have been brought in and unsupported on learning business processes and systems. All the change has created teams that are in a constant state of reactive, rather than proactive. With the inconsistency, there is little understanding on how to make effective decisions and/or decisions are “pushed down” from the top with no reasoning of why. Many times, it seems that tenured employees’ perspectives are not valued or considered. Management/ HR communication is either nonexistent or off-mark. In many cases, employees (and people managers) are left wondering the direction to steer. A few examples include no clear documentation on paths to promotion and no raises given in 2022 with zero communication. Additionally, ExtraHop has no formal anniversary appreciation program, leaving employees left to wonder if their contributions are valued.

Unique business strategy

Pros

Pretty good product and, use to be, some great co-workers. Founders were ok until the sell out for the mighty dollar.

Cons

I'm not going to revisit the toxicity of the current C-level and general senior "leadership". I think the fact that these are really bad people is well established. I completely get that I'm not up and privy to all the myriad business plans/models that VCs and PEs use when they acquire new companies. The "plan" at Extrahop appears to be destroy the culture, the morale, the reputation, and the product and call it lunch. Which is why you hire a guy like this CEO who has a history of doing all of the above with the help of his journeymen sycophants. When it's all scorched/salted earth, the fire sale ensues and you count your shekels and bodies while high-fiving the pyrrhic "win". Not saying the model is not rinse, wash, repeat for the predatory PE/VC world but there is only so much carrion left at which these vultures can pick. Anyway, the only hope, at this point, is for this mgmt crew to move on to the next naive victim and leave some poor schlubs to come in and resurrect what is left. If that is possible.

Incompetence Abounds

Pros

Great tech and a lot of tenured employees that care.

Cons

CEO is clueless, CMO is clueless, CPO is toxic. CEO was described as “one of the best in the industry” (by his friend) but he’s inept, at best. He has no experienced/expertise in this space and often reflects on his days of selling with Oracle as some absurd comparison.
