Decent Family-Owned Company

Pros

I liked that it was family and veteran owned, and a small enough company to make a difference, but big enough to be stable. There are four showrooms and an outdoor showroom in Arizona, and almost 200 employees. The company sends out recognition emails every time someone positively reviewed us online. There are career opportunities within the company, especially for office positions, to talk to the boss and ask for a spot in another department, or maybe to shift roles into something new.

Cons

There are only two health insurance options, and both have a really high Out of Pocket maximum ($6,350). I know that's had to increase because of the Affordable Care Act, but it would be nice if they offered some different plans that maybe had higher monthly premiums and lower OOP costs for people who know their families will need to use insurance often. I had to buy health insurance from the Marketplace, which costs me hundreds of dollars after taxes, because I knew our family would hit the OOP every year. I would much rather have that come out of my check pre-tax.

Pros

Fellow employees (very few) are the only decent things this company has going. Most are leaving and/or looking to leave.

Cons

Work environment is terrible. You have to talk yourself into going to work everyday. Management/ownership doesn't interact with you at all. At least not to your face. The few favorites are treated very well - they're told confidential information that they then share with everyone else - and management accuses the wrong people of talking. No benefits - No 401k - No direct deposit. They have nothing to offer, yet they think you should just be grateful for having a job.

We do offer benefits. We pay 50% of insurance premiums, offer Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona for healthcare, vision benefits, dental benefits, critical illness insurance, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, and short-term disability insurance. We also offer direct deposit to all employees as well.

Pros

It's a job and that is about it.

Cons

Ownership has no clue. Either that or they are way in over their head and can't pay the bills. They seem desperate. They don't offer any benefits and have nothing but a paycheck to offer you and it's still like you owe them something. All good managers are gone.
