Poor Financial State & Management

Pros

Forefront provides great exposure to/engagement with the philanthropic and nonprofit communities in the Chicagoland area and offers an opportunity to learn about philanthropy serving organizations (PSOs). The org. also provides a lot of useful services for the sector and does great policy and advocacy work.

Cons

Forefront has struggled with structural deficits and has notable budget challenges that leadership is not upfront about. There is serious turnover/a lack of stability, and executive leadership seem to lean on dismissing staff rather than addressing underlying/structural issues that have lingered for years.

Pros

Leadership is, for the most part, great. Lots of empathy and they were very caring and respectful of staff during COVID. Pay is pretty on par with nonprofits in Chicago, but there is a pretty major pay discrepancy between the CEO and the rest of staff.

Cons

The finance team is a black hole, and its hard to understand how to best work with them.
