Pros

You can make your own future here if you are a bit of an entrepreneur. Since the company is still small enough, you can really make a difference if you bring the skills to the table. I did. But it's up to you to make of it what you can. You got to show some vibe, skill and enthusiasm. Since it's a group effort, people expect you to have a group mentality. Got arcade games, poker & drinks. Pool table coming up. It's an environment where you can say anything you want (trust me, I'm Dutch, I say the weirdest things)

Cons

If you are looking for early retirement with lots of entitlements, don't bother. You will have colleagues that expect the best. There are nice perks, but none of them are about slacking it off. Can be competitive but don't take it personally.

Pros

It's not a 'fast paced environment' which could be a pro or con depending on what you like.

Cons

Genbook is run by micro-managers to the extreme who exert too much control over everything, no matter how minor. Very passive aggressive and toxic environment. Ideas and suggestions for innovation are not welcome and shot-down very quickly, then you're reprimanded for not exactly doing as instructed. They don't want employees who are interested in making individual contributions, have discussions or give ideas, just want people to keep quiet and do as they're told, which is why you can hear a pin drop in the office. Not a good vibe at all. Staff are terrified to speak up or step out of line. They have a high turn-over rate which can be seen from searching past employees on Linkedin. They can't keep quality staff for long. It's because there's only so long people will tolerate being patronised, micro-managed and criticised for every breath you take, with not ever a single bit of recognition or even a simple 'thanks' when your hard work is completed. One of the other major challenges comes from working with extremely outdated technology which management refuses to upgrade despite repeated recommendations. There is a general fear of change, so everything happens at a snails pace. The CEO is completely out of touch with his industry but far too narcissistic & arrogant to notice. Treats his employees like they aren't there. He ignores any & all requests from staff. Very old fashioned authoritarian mentality that does not make sense in a small start-up company of 15 employees.

Pros

Genbook has achieved what so many SaaS start-up businesses dream of, an established customer base in the US and Canadian market. There are thousands of business who happily rely on Genbook all day every day to run their business. The future is exciting with so much opportunity to continually evolve a great product and win new customers. It’s a small and friendly team working together to evolve and improve Genbook. Being a small team means that everyone’s contribution matters and is noticed. There is a good balance in the office of self-driven hard work while still maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a time of positive change within the organisation with investment in infrastructure, processes, product and marketing. The work life balance is very good, get your head down and get on with your work and your out of office time is your own unless something critical comes up. I feel that the comradery and sense of team continues to improve. This is helped along by the monthly out of office events that Genbook organises for all that wish to participate. The most recent addition of a pool table in the office has generated some healthy competition, and a great way to take a break when you want to.

Cons

Sometimes we run out of muesli bars or forget to put beer in the fridge.
