The "amazing" people left

Pros

The product is neat when it works. The lower ranks are almost all veterans, could be a pro or con depending on who you are. There's free soda.

Cons

All the vibrant and dedicated people left for better opportunities last year. What is left are people who can't afford to leave or plan to leave soon. It takes 5-10 years to get any kind of promotion. The pay is very low compared to the regional cost of living. Everybody I work with has valuable industry experience and can barely pay the bills each month. Many people have tried to negotiate a pay increase only to be stone walled. This is exacerbated by the harsh winters that push monthly heating costs into several hundreds of dollars. The company typically resorts to allowing overtime instead of raises, and then randomly bans overtime, leaving everybody confused and stressed out. The facility is in the middle of a popular tourist destination, meaning the commute can double or triple in the summer. Every complaint on here about management is still true. This is a very niche market, so the experience you gain here might not be very valuable elsewhere. Not that you'll have to worry about it, since they make everybody sign a non-compete agreement so that you have no other options. The company regularly makes decisions that go against all forms of rational thinking, so if you enjoy blindly following orders from people you never physically encounter you'll fit right in. Every year the company gives out jackets with the company logo embroidered on it. Some people have like 5 of these things. Please stop.

Soul Sucking

Pros

The people doing the work are excellent. From engineering to Manufacturing there are really competent people doing some really good work. The product line , and the applications are interesting. The location is a plus if you want to live on the Cape.

Cons

Management has absolutely no concept of how bad the morale is. Nothing ever gets finished, because of the constant fire drills. There are as many program managers as there are engineers, and they promote some crazy schedules. Many of the reviews are old ones from the good days there. The last couple of years have been absolutely one of the worst experiences of my career. There has been twenty to thirty percent turnover annually. I have never seen so many people leave without having another job. The "assignments" are all due in a time someone in management deems reasonable. The expectation is that you will stay as long as it takes to get the work done. So many of the engineers are kids out of college as the experienced ones are mostly gone.
