Once great, now in despair

Pros

Hallstar is a decent stepping stone to build experience in a chemical based workplace, but no longer a company to build a career with.

Cons

What once was a company that prided itself in core values and promoting from within, is now a clueless mess that believes in hiring people without a clue. Capitol is spent at an alarming rate on experiments that do not work, and the factory has become filled with "White Elephants". One manager in particular runs around like a petulant child, and has decided to sail the ship based on fear, much like a tyrant. Morale is kept low, and good employees are pushed down on a daily basis, concerns of this nature have been brought to senior leadership, but has fallen upon deaf ears. Many good employees that would break their back for this company will no longer raise an eyebrow to help. Leadership preaches about a "FAITH, FAMILY, HALLSTAR" culture, but nothing of the sort is shown.

We appreciate your post, and we’re sorry to not have responded earlier. While we have a lot of success to be proud of, the organization is far from perfect, and we’re certainly being challenged by adapting and growing our processes to fit our global expansion and a changing world. It is upsetting to hear that morale is low in your location. The teams of Hallstar people who interview and evaluate talent take their efforts very seriously, knowing how their results contribute to our culture. All of us must take just as seriously our individual impact on creating a work environment that positively rewards expertise, effort, and collaboration. You may feel that your ideas have fallen on deaf ears, but we have heard many of the issues you raise before, and while it may not happen overnight, we are working on making key improvements.

Wish it was different

Pros

There were so many pros to working here years ago. I was proud of HallStar when I joined. We were a family. It's not the same anymore.

Cons

Working at HallStar feels hopeless and sad. I wish it could be different, but morale is steadily declining. I’ve tried to talk about it with my coworkers, but when I do, people say “that’s just the way it is here”. I thought I could go and talk to my manager about how I was feeling because it is affecting my work. He told me that he understands how I feel, but I just need to focus on my work and not get into the politics. That itself is hard to do because of our open office environment. If you stand up and say something, you are at risk of being put down and being labeled a bad employee by a leadership team that is more worried about protecting themselves than supporting the people that work for them. I absolutely hate working at HallStar. I feel so devalued and like what I do and want to contribute doesn’t matter. I cry regularly because of the way I’m marginalized and underutilized. This company has crushed me down, made me sick, depressed, and unbalanced in my life. I recently started taking medication to help with the depression and feelings of not wanting to get out of bed to come to work in the morning. I’m a different person than when I started working here.

Pros

Having read these reviews (which I think are mostly authored by the same person as they rehash the same misinformation), I must chime in. There will always be the disgruntled worker at every company who is most happy when they are complaining and being negative and toxic. Contrary to the negativity of this poster, Hallstar is filled with happy, outgoing, hardworking, smart and driven people who really know their business and do a great job. Does the company have issues – sure – but these are issues of a growing company, not one in decline. Multiple acquisitions over the last several years, many of them international, have succeeded in short- term strain on our current operating systems and yes, our employees. So if you are looking to be challenged, to have an opportunity to stand up and say “I can do it”, and then follow through and do it, you will be rewarded. As a private company, we don’t publicize our financials, but our employees know how well our results have benefitted us individually and as a team. And yes, our SAP transition is going very well. Sure a few bugs, but this was smooth because of the dedication and planning of an IT group that is far from overstaffed. I have worked at large multinational Fortune 500 companies, and companies as small as 7 people. I’ve seen it all. I’ve been at Hallstar through some rough times and good times, and we are about to embark on a growth spurt based on good old fashioned hard work, imagination and innovation. Simply put, Hallstar’s culture rewards achievement and is personnel friendly. It’s a great place to work.

Cons

If you are lazy or bitter, please stay away.
