    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Hampton Roads Transit full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exciting and forward-leaning goals have been set for the Technology Department. Impactful that constructive comments are heard, assessed, acted upon and communicated back to employees. With continued focus and hiring, problems identified, I am confident, will be alleviated. Restructured technical staff compensation package to be more market competitive. Environment is friendly and professional (and no, I am NOT affiliated with HR!)

    Cons

I have no major "cons" and would like to see them continue down the open door policy for grievances and possibly introduce more flexible schedules and remote opportunities

    Advice to Management

Continue on path to bring consistency, transparency and growth toward current and future employees.

    Pros

    - Work benefits the public sector
    - Some great and knowledgeable employees

    Cons

    - Not a place for seasoned IT professionals
    - CTO creates a hostile non productive environment which stifles creativity
    - CTO paranoia due to lack of her qualifications for the position
    - No support from HR when personnel problems arise
    - Good IT people depart quickly which results in lack of continuity
    - CTO has zero people skills along with poor management techniques

    Advice to Management

CEO and HR needs to review the high turnover rate in IT as it is very high when compared to industry standards. Start with the CTO she is the MAJOR problem

I have been working at Hampton Roads Transit full-time

    Pros

Company morale, great benefits, room for growth

    Cons

Big company with offices on both sides of the water, so you may not get to see some of your coworkers very often.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Hampton Roads Transit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

some really nice people. Hours are not bad. work isn't too demanding. Several sites to manage as far as network and communications is concerned.

    Cons

Bi Polar manager with no hiring skills at all. hires people that are not qualified, then fires them after 6 months to two years. So there is no consistency, no continuity.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CTO or take the department away from her. Get a sane person to manage the department. This could be a fantastic department.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

This is a very large company with many opportunities. You have the ability to work in other departments when positions become available. The company provides fun activities throughout the year to boost morale. Lastly, my supervisor takes great care of a team I am happy to be apart of!

    Cons

Working on Columbus Day is a slight negative, but the only one I can think of. Perhaps, that's a good thing

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. It can be difficult to be a manager and I appreciate feeling like I am always heard.

I have been working at Hampton Roads Transit (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are outstanding! Employees are wonderful. Great opportunity for growth. You feel like an important part of the company. Although being government makes it hard for the company to give frequent or significant, they try to make up for it with bonuses, paid time off and leave sell-backs.

    Cons

The company can feel political since it is overseen by the cities.

I worked at Hampton Roads Transit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There were very few pros. If you believe all the rave reviews posted on here, you're crazy! You can bet its HRT HR staff posting repeatedly to cover the absolute STENCH of this miserable place.

    Cons

I have never worked in a more hate filled environment. The Technology Department is a cesspit of incompetent, finger pointing, racially biased, crazies from the top down. And the 'top' takes the cake in the crazy category. Any professional IT people will be appalled by this place! STAY AWAY!

    Advice to Management

Smell the coffee! Open your eyes and face facts about why you have a revolving door in specific departments. You have one glaring problem!
