Sadly, I wouldn't recommend working here

Pros

Excellent staff and coworkers who genuinely care about the youth being served. Every staff person who works here is a pleasure to be around and is extremely welcoming and caring.

Cons

The Executive Director is out of touch and highly dismissive. When issues are raised, she turns the case back on staff members and does nothing to improve the workplace. I routinely felt overwhelmed, stressed out, and unsupported and was told that I needed to "lean into my discomfort." I literally quit because of how awful it was to work with her. There's high turnover at this organization because of her mismanagement and even youth have said that things feel weird at HomePlate, which is really sad. She also spends funds on nonprofit training taught by her friends.

Pros

Small staff, great mission, fulfilling work, good entry-level social work job for non-MSWs.

Cons

The need in Washington County is extreme. Could be a more diverse staff. Leadership is pretty set in its ways. There is a large divide in understanding between admin staff & front lines staff.

Management is nuts

Pros

Participants are amazing. Lots of freedom to do your work independently.

Cons

No training. Meetings almost daily that last for way too long. A culture of gossip and badmouthing of coworkers and participants. Overzealous and distrustful management who plays favorites and makes all interactions with staff play out like an abusive family dynamic.
