Not quite what it seems...

Pros

Great location in Boston's financial district! Modern open office plan. Some really great team members. IdeaPaint is a really cool product!

Cons

Overall the company "talks the talk" but doesn't "walk the walk" in terms of culture. While there is an open vacation policy, most requests are scrutinized and work from home is discouraged. Morale is rather low, and there is a lot of inequality between departments. You'll find the lack of organized work flow systems that you would expect from a startup, but not the fun or flexible atmosphere. Upper management seems to focus on lofty goals when fundamentals of the product and company processes need work and resources. Turnover rate is somewhat alarming.

Could be something special

Pros

The health benefits are pretty good comparatively. Neat showroom/ open-layout work environment. Generally nice and amiable fellow employees. Some level of flexibility as compared to larger corporations.

Cons

No concrete career path. Little, to no ongoing training. Certain members of the senior leadership team have proven to be undeniably dishonest and conniving. Little flexibility to work hours. Work/Life balance is sad. IdeaPaint expects to suck as much as physically possible out of you and compensate you as little as possible (All in the name of being a "fast-paced start-up") Overall lack of structure/ day to day direction from leadership.

Pros

If you are comfortable with wearing many hats and being a problem solver, this can be a very rewarding experience and a great resume builder. Varying generations with different experience levels intermix and you will be able to interact with upper management as there are very few barriers. A lot of energy and thought put into values over the years, which you can take with you wherever you go whether or not IdeaPaint actually lives them.

Cons

Rotten at the top unfortunately, which trickles down and results in a lot of meaningless peddling for everyone trying to just make it all work. A few years back the board was convinced that leadership had to change, but ultimately it has been a bad pivot and the guy they installed is a bag of hot air who hasn't exactly steered the company in any meaningful direction. If you want to hear about his kids though or various sports references over him actually remembering your name or what exactly you do for the company then he might be the leader for you.
