The main one is the lack of career opportunities. Promotions happen about as often as global pandemics and in the rare event of a new role becoming available (usually because someone has quit out of frustration), they pick less qualified external candidates who will not cause waves.
Highly political environment. The place is overrun by managers who only care about appearing to be busy.
Salary is below market rate. Bonuses are a joke. Collectively determined by managers and are not at all related to your performance.
Open office plan is highly distracting.
Facetime is very real here. It's done in an attempt to appear important to other teams/departments. This is also why there are soooo many pointless meetings. People love to book 1-hour meetings for things that can be decided over email.
Busywork is king. There is an annoying trick managers will pull to appear busy and more valuable in the eyes of others: Manager 1 will ask Manager 2 if they need X done. Manager 2 will agree knowing full well they don't need X done. Manager 1 will then boast about how they've taken on so much while Manager 2 will boast about how they're collaborating so much with Manager 1. It's a bizarre phenomenon that arises in cultures that reward busywork. The end result is no value is created but two managers have helped each other appear like they're working hard.
Diversity is a joke. A lot of talk about diversity when it's topical but no action taken.
Management doesn't like to tell the truth about the state of the business. Saying "we're amazing" works for clients but not internally.
