Great Staff, Bad Leadership

Pros

I have gotten to work with some of the most amazingly talented people and paid well! But that shouldn't be the only benefit in your career.

Cons

The leadership is really bad, do not come here expecting to grow in your career long term. I think they have made some really bad calls on hiring leadership roles in the last few years, and there is a lack of diversity from ethnicity and gender. I have really been struggling to get the leadership to really expand my role and grow long term here and feel that there is a lot of politics that have been going on in the back and not as much transparency that there should be. As well they do not follow the mission that they pitch. Since starting here I was sold on the dream of "democratizing real estate" and I have yet to see us move towards that goal in any way. I wish they would stop pushing that message if everything we do is the opposite of that.

Hey there, It’s super important for us that we’re creating and nurturing an environment where our current and future teammates see growth for themselves, and trust leadership to guide and create an inclusive environment. We have leveling guidelines for roles and I am directly aware of many 1:1 plans teams have to plan individual growth. Even at a small company where we don’t have a lot of specializations and programs, we work hard to develop individual growth plans for everyone. I’m sorry you’re not experiencing that, and I'd love to work with you on that if you are up for reaching out. Regarding our mission, I know that leadership thinks deeply about how we’re pushing our mission forward, and how we can make sure the rest of the team can understand it. We know that there is more work to be done here and are actively working on ways of improving engagement across the team in our strategy and how the work we are doing is driven by our mission. We’ve published two major documents internally that define our mission and strategy, including milestones, and have discussed various elements in All Hands. I highly encourage you to take a look at those if you haven’t already, hopefully they will provide insight into our mission strategy and how our work right now is supporting it. Start a discussion internally, let's hold each other accountable and work together to see that mission through! Your perspective is truly important to us so we know what everyone’s experience is like. I strongly encourage you to deliver this feedback internally (I’d love to discuss directly), because it’s hard to engage in an action-oriented discussion in this forum. However, we value all feedback regardless of how it’s delivered and use it to inform improvement. I’m encouraged to hear that you’re working with amazing people here! - Sarah

Pros

- Smart leadership and strategic operators. The product is strong, leadership is very judicious in their expansion and growth, and there's a real opportunity to be a part of building something great. - The leadership team trusts the team they've built and listens to the feedback/ideas of others (more than any other I've worked with). - A culture of gratitude and celebration for employee contributions. - Solid work life balance and remote benefits. - A compelling mission that is genuinely at the forefront of the product and the team they've built.

Cons

No real cons in my experience! It's a smaller company, so there's always more to do than hands to do it. However, the ask is never to overwork to accomplish everything that needs to get done. You just have to be able to prioritize (and reprioritize) pretty regularly.

Pros

* Very positive culture/team everyone is very genuine, easy to talk to and believes in a positive work/life balance * There is a flat hierarchy dynamic and everyone is treated as an equal contributor

Cons

* I wouldn't call this a con, but it may be helpful to note that the interview process is quite long and involves more than 3 meetings. This is actually rather strategic and will give you the opportunity to meet everyone. It may seem daunting for some, but it's worth it.
