Pros

Free food. Free public transportation when wearing and IDF uniform.

Cons

Conscription army - you don't get much say about being conscripted, and not enough about which department you will be working for. Lots of mandatory army shenanigans which don't relate to programming or even computers at all. Several years of mandatory service with salary way below minimum wage. For some, a few more years of service with pay comparable to a cheap junior programmer Almost no way to break contract and leave, especially from the mandatory service. The free food is cheap, and the dining hall is not hygienic (Pigeons roamed free, sometimes even landing on the tables and food trays)
