An Incredibly Terrible Place to Work

Pros

Being a part of the Portland food scene is fun and exciting, but not when you get treated like dirt.

Cons

Managment is selfish & abusive and treats employees with extreme disrespect. There is no organization or structure and everyone is stressed all the time, which usually results in coworkers yelling at each other or crying. There was more than one occasion where customers raised concerns about the way they were treated by the owner. There is no work/life balance, work is always expected to be more important. Jacobsen Salt Co. is an incredibly terrible place to work.

Growing Company, Lots of Egos

Pros

Working in a very up-and-coming player in the popular Portland food scene. Lots of samples to take home and the employee discount was significant.

Cons

There was a lot of room to move around the company, but the upper levels were largely clogged with people who have been there for a while, despite not having the experience necessary to do their job well. This created a class system, with the higher-ups in the ivory tower and the slums down below. There was a general air of disrespect toward anyone not in the operations part of the business. That said, it was pretty easy to shrug them off and enjoy a bunch of free salt.
