Pros

Jennings Computer Services is a small Apple retail store, you'll learn much about how Apple deals with ACMT's and Apple Retail Stores. You'll be thrown into the deep-end often repairing Apple hardware that you do not have the training to do, so you learn quick on the job however no training is offered in this aspect leading to possible mistakes. In 1 month i had repaired all new forms of Apple Hardware without any training or guidance.

Cons

One weeks basic training is offered to non-ACMT and then you're let loose on any Apple machine. Minimal support and guidance is offered and you're directed to look at the manuels that you don't have access to because you're not a fully qualified ACMT. As noted, the company routinely hires a new staff member, every 3 months and lets another member go at the same time. I assume this keeps wages down and the grunt work is easy to do so why pay them more. This was confirmed by a recruitment agency. Communication between front-houses and back-house is shambolic. Often non-repaired machined were submitted as repaired by over obnoxious assistants causing issues, delays and confusion for customers and staff.

A well balanced and critical but somewhat fair review. Almost. Unfortunately, there are several factual innaccuracies in this review that need to be addressed. It is true that Jennings has had a period of staffing difficulties. The Jennings candidate selection and interview process was not effective and some poor recruitment decisions were made. A significant investment (time and resources) is required to bring technicians up to the high standards required to perform Apple authorised repairs. When Jennings has identified that the investment is unlikely to be returned action must be taken. This is why there was a (short) period of churn. Jennings DO NOT hire/fire every three months. Nor has the services of a recruitment agency ever been used. Whoever provided the confirmation is misinformed. All trainees have access to all the required documentation and tools prior to qualification. Jennings require their technicians to be able to use their initiative when resolving problems. Jennings offer guidance and support but do not have the resources to provide hand holding. Jennings do not employ any "assistants". Most front of house staff do not have the required access to mark repairs as complete. Perhaps the confusion was closer to home. Sorry that your employment at Jennings didn't work out.

Pros

Central to York Friendly none management staff. (Management are the problem at this company.)

Cons

Some challenges let me list a few that drove me to leave this ‘company’ - The management in Scarborough bully the staff in York and make you believe you are worthless. - Phone you on your personal mobile phone and call you a liar and you don’t do enough work (with no evidence to back this up as they didn’t ever come to York.) during working hours. - Hire people behind your back for your current job position. - Fixed windows that have a metal gate across them that cannot be opened, major fire hazard but when raised no one seemed to care. - Fix a ‘Score Matrix’ system in order to get rid of staff as they hired too many. - They do not care about the wellbeing of their staff - Chinese whispers about what’s going on between York and Scarborough staff, often finding out things that directly affect your job. - Expect you to work in a crammed environment that barely meets the Apple requirements. (Often a mad dash upon Apple inspection.) - No lunch break, mad dash to the shop and back whilst expecting to deal with walk in customers. - ZERO positive feedback despite receiving feedback from customers.

Pros

No uniform so are able to wear your own clothing. Let loose on equipment without training this is a good experience for learning. Staff are generally nice to each other.

Cons

The management is terrible in particular Karl. Karl is under qualified and has no leadership abilities. The way he speaks to his staff is disgusting. Karl lacks the ability to make any form of decision and avoids confrontation at all costs. This has led to many issues with both Jennings maintenance customers and consumers so the technicians are then left having to pick up the pieces. Karl is lazy frequently passing work onto other staff members while claiming he is extremely busy. I think forgetting we all have access to the same job system and all know what maintenance jobs are being proposed (as we have to cost them up as he doesn’t know how to properly and severely overcharges) and those that are ongoing. It is extremely frustrating to be lied to by management so blatantly. Since covid struck Karl has barely set foot in the office and both he and Mike made no effort to protect staff. Karl simply sent an email to staff saying keep 2m away etc yet ironically our work benches were not adjusted so this was simply impossible to do. Karl is not business minded and should not be in a management position. Mike the owner does not take well to criticism and often passes blame. However he is generally nice and the one to go to for help. The vans always break down The pay is extremely bad for employees. Minimum wage all round, expect for Karl and Mike who turn up to work in Porsches and Audis. This leaves a bitter taste in staff’s mouths. No rewards No recognition No incentives No employee perks or benefits No technical training given despite this being promised No support Empty promises Spoken to badly by management

I strongly disagree with the comments made here. I'm shocked, stunned, hurt and disappointed by the content of this defamatory review by one of our own employees. I would urge the author to bear in mind it has been far from business as usual over the last 12 months and that includes expenditure for new vehicles, pay reviews, showroom refurbishment or anything else of significant cost for that matter. It has been more a case of keeping going under the extremely difficult circumstances thrust upon us. Our main concern over the last 12 months has been keeping everybody in employment despite these very challenging times. I am a parent of two young school age children who have spent much of the last year at home being home schooled whilst also trying to remotely work from home and assist in making management decisions. I may have not been present in the office as much as usual but i have been very much present within the business working very long hours from home. Mentally It has been the most challenging and mentally draining year of my life and comments surrounding this subject are ill received. I also cannot recall having any disagreeable conversation with any member of our team for as long as I can remember. How can it be right for a disgruntled employee to claim anonymity yet is cowardly allowed to slander my name all over the internet without just cause. To clarify, there is a management team at Jennings consisting of more than one person and so it is not myself that solely makes decisions. I would urge the author of this defamatory and tasteless review to think about what they have written remove it and instead seek to discuss your issues with your line manager. With regard to wages, we categorically do not pay minimum wage. Our wages are well above minimum wage and based on ability, experience and results. There are so many inconsistencies, libelous comments and fabricated facts in this review that it does not hold up. Karl Jennings
