"Con" is the most appropriate word for describing this company. The Owner is nothing more than a polished con artist. His nickname in the business circles is "The Smiling Liar". Salaried staff paychecks are routinely held for days because he can't cover them. If you don't cash it right away it'll bounce because he'll move the money to pay an old bill. As a practice he shorts his hourly employees on their time & expenses. If they're sent to a job site, they better hope they're actually needed because if they come back without a ticket, they don't get paid for the day! Even if it was Kim's fault. Can't stay in good standing with the State. Can't provide any benefits, no health care, no 401K or retirement plans, hell he can't even provide direct deposit! He literally steals the employee leave balances back by zeroing them out at the end of every year without giving any notice to his employees. If you make it to Christmas you have a $50 Visa gift card waiting for you as your bonus! Doesn't actually have an Civil / Land Engineering Department. One engineer and one drafter for the entire company is not a department! No resources, software, hardware, nothing except what the employee bring with them. Uses payroll tax money to fund his annual month long family vacations to Korea every September. Has defaulted on IRS payment plans so now they simply garnish his bank accounts (he finds this appaling, how dare they take my money without telling me!) Doesn't pay contractors (including those that were subs to Kim on municipal projects!), vendors (he stopped paying for the used drill rigs he bought years ago), landlords (eviction notices posted on branch office doors are routine), etc. In fact he forces court action for debt collection, doesn't appear in court, then never pays the civil debts). Kim (corporate and individual) has over $1.6 MILLION in default judgments and tax liens against him (see Maryland Judiciary website). Recent scam is using multiple bank accounts to hide money from the IRS (claims they mistakenly take money from his bank account so he has a shell game going with his accounts so they can't take the tax money he owes). This guy is completely oblivious to how close he is to winding up in prison. Do you homework before entering into a contract with this firm. He brags about being in business for 25+ years but that's mainly because Kim is an MBE firm. Clocks ticking on this guy so he may not be in business long enough to finish your project!
