Pros

I really loved the students and the other teachers. Most of the students are engaged and excited about learning. The extracurricular activities were fun and interesting. I also liked that LSI has its own curriculum and doesn’t require lesson prep.

Cons

Pay is low but job requires a BA and necessitates finding another job, which means no benefits all around. Quality of curriculum is very low and more about filling time than actually teaching anything productive. Every teacher knows that you can’t structure good classes without planning, and if LSI were willing to take on full-time teachers and actually pay them for prep time, I don’t doubt they’d see higher enrollment. LSI shut down during COVID, causing instructors to lose their jobs, and only hired certain teachers to teach limited online classes during that time. Once they opened back up, they made no effort to contact some of the former staff. Even if they didn’t want to keep the former staff on, it would have been decent to contact employees to let them know that they weren’t being rehired, and it felt like quite a slap in the face to those of us who were discarded after our loyalty to and involvement in the school. At the end of the day, it is a for-profit company and only has its own interests at heart. The other issue is that staff are looked down upon for taking the minimum California state-mandated sick days (3/year) and upper management acts as if it’s unacceptable. I worked there for over three years and never met the owner, as they are not involved at all. If you work here, beware that you mean nothing to this company and they will discard you without a second thought.

Thank you for providing detailed feedback regarding Language Systems (LSI). We appreciate the opportunity to address the concerns raised by the former employee. • Curriculum: Language Systems' curriculum is of high quality as we have been accredited by ACCET since 2012. Our accrediting agency has consistently acknowledged LSI's strengths in curriculum and teacher training. LSI's curriculum underscores our commitment to providing a robust educational experience. • During COVID-19: During the COVID-19 pandemic, efforts were made to rehire specific teachers for limited online classes during that period. We regret any perception of neglect during the temporary closure due to COVID-19 and its immense challenges for both teachers and students. • After COVID-19: After the pandemic, Language Systems made extensive efforts to reach out repeatedly to all LSI teachers, offering them positions with higher pay and retaining vacation benefits. Many teachers who were not with us during COVID-19 returned to their former LSI teaching positions with their benefits intact. • Sick Leave and Substitute Teachers: It's crucial to note that teachers at LSI are encouraged to take sick days when needed, which is a testament to our commitment to the well-being of our educators, especially after an international pandemic. Our extensive list of substitute teachers ensures the continuity of quality classes when regular teachers need time off. • Compensation and Benefits: While we have acknowledged concerns about compensation, it's important to emphasize that current LSI teachers receive yearly raises based on performance. After one year of service, qualified teachers are entitled to two weeks of paid vacation. Additionally, we offer free professional development and on-site academic support from the Program Coordinator to further the growth of our educators. We appreciate the advice provided and are committed to continuously improving our practices. Since you apparently stopped working for Language Systems several years ago, you have not experienced the changes we have recently made. Recognizing the value of our educators, continuing to invest in our curriculum, and acknowledging the need for sick leave are all issues we have worked hard on to enhance the overall employee experience at Language Systems. We value feedback and are dedicated to creating a positive and supportive environment for both our teachers and students.
