I have been working at Life Storage full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Steady hours, responsibilities, and usually little micromanagement.

    Cons

Corporate is starting to try to squeeze every cent of profit they can from both customers and cutting costs regardless of the effect of customers and employees

    Advice to Management

Chill. Aggressive rate increases are driving away customers. And you then come down on the managers on why occupancy rates are dropping. Upset customers equals upset managers who can't do anything to help them.

I have been working at Life Storage full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Co-workers and customers are great. The job itself is very enjoyable. Each day is different, renting spaces, taking payments, property maintenance, and banking are just a few of the daily tasks and responsibilities. Making a customer smile and helping them out is most rewarding.

    Cons

Constant micromanaging, daily threats of disciplinary action for the most inane things, like not completing an intro call within a 30 minute time limit. Daily policy and procedural changes rolled out with insufficient training or on an incomplete basis. Being chastised daily by an Area Manager for not reaching goals, most of which are set to high to begin with. Home Office totally out of touch with store... employees. Current group just concerned with the almighty dollar and don’t care about alienating their employees and customers. Work hard, meet goals and the quarterly bonus still stinks.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are not happy and your customers will eventually go elsewhere. Change is good when it is implemented for the right reasons .

I have been working at Life Storage full-time for less than a year

    Pros

All i can think of is Benefits.

    Cons

They can keep reducing hours even full time. They send you to cover other stores and they do not pay for mileage. System is always down.

    Advice to Management

They need to be better with employees.

I have been working at Life Storage full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very Minimal pay, but its a paycheck-many long time employees including managers have to work two jobs just to make ends meet

    Cons

Seems the upper management all the way up to new CEO Sapphire show No respect for onsite personnel . Bias, nepotism and over work w underpay.

    Advice to Management

Try going on Undercover Boss Mr. Sapphire and maybe you’ll figure out why your field personnel feel so very very disappointed, disregarded and disrespected. Regional Managers should be better audited, seems there is No accountability for unprofessional behavior for those above onsite employee status.

I worked at Life Storage full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very structured. Good internal company support. Promotes from within. Steady job.

    Cons

Give corporate 5% growth or you’re in for a tough time.

    Advice to Management

You can’t always get 5% growth in every market. Invest in security in high crime areas gangs prey on the weakest properties and they compare notes.

I have been working at Life Storage full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vacation time if your approved for it, and sick time

    Cons

They are giving store mangers multiple stores now keeping an associates at the store most of the time by themselves to do store manager duties without store manager pay. This really sucks leaving someone to run a store by themselves for almost a year and someone else gets the bonuses. If your going to try to cut corners don't pay your employees next to nothing and your turnover rate would get better. They spend... too much on training employees just to have them quit.because the pay is too low.

    Advice to Management

Stope having associates run the store under multi store managers bc the associates end up running the store without the proper pay or bonuses. You can not run two stores and give each store the proper time and care they need. The responsibility goes to the associate mangers who do not get paid well enough. Stop spending so much on training for the high rate of turnovers you have it is costing u guys too much. ... Also there is no way to tell if y'all are spending more than other companies on payroll. I also call BS I got hired at a different storage company making almost double the pay doing the same. Life Storage is another corporate company that doesn't care about is employees only about making the budgets.
