Pros

Great opportunities to contribute your best, whatever that may mean. Thoughtful and respectful people throughout, which helps make a constructive culture, good individual autonomy, and flexibility of work styles/schedules. Personally, though, the technology and vision of Lumin is the best motivator. It may not be clear from outside this niche of the clean energy transition, but Lumin is leading a key set of innovations. And we are powered directly by the team of people.

Cons

Potentially, someone attached to the environments of either fun scrappy startups or established structured organizations may not appreciate this best-of-both-worlds phase. Lumin is suited for those who enjoy — and have the patience for — participating in continual improvement.

Challenging Experience with room for improvement

Pros

One of the pros of working at the company is the flexibility in your schedule. As long as you set your own boundaries, it's accommodating, especially considering that team members are often spread across different time zones. Another positive aspect is the potential for growth since the company is still in its startup phase. However, it's worth noting that there isn't always clear guidance on how to navigate this growth, and it may require some initiative on the employee's part.

Cons

One of the significant downsides of working at the company is the lack of dedicated support for employee satisfaction. While there are leaders with a clear vision for the product, the absence of someone who can address and improve employee well-being can be detrimental to morale. Another concerning aspect is the tendency for leadership to turn a blind eye to problematic individuals, which can have a negative impact on the overall work environment. This inaction often leads to an environment where such issues are left unresolved and can, unfortunately, harm team cohesion.

A diamond in the rough

Pros

It's easy to be scared away by a startup. Everyone assumes long hours, wearing too many hats, chaos, dysfunction, mediocre pay and below-average benefits. Lumin is the opposite of all that. Yes, Lumin is a start up and things move at a fast pace, but chaos is by far the exception and not the norm. People genuinely care about each other and work hard to help each other out. Collaboration is a huge component of the culture. Managers actually care about work-life-balance and make an effort to ensure their team members take time off. The pay is competitive and benefits are pretty good considering the size.

Cons

There isn't always great opportunity for mentorship and coaching. In a smaller, leaner, flat structure, you won't find a lot of people able to coach and mentor you in your role. As noted, everyone is helpful and willing to take time to share their knowledge, but as a small startup, you are on your own (to a degree) for learning and growing. That said, the professional development benefit is great and useful for learning new things.
