Toxic Culture - Don't Believe Positive Reviews

Pros

* The ability to work remotely, even in the before times, is nice. * The company, or at least the EVP, is understanding that there are bigger things than work (family, health, etc.) and tries to work with employees who need to take care of personal matters.

Cons

I worked at Madison for over 6 years and in that time, nothing changed. The culture is toxic from the top, including the least secret workplace marriage in the history of secret workplace marriages. That alone has caused certain individuals to have too much power, and get away with too much. Madison has gone from agile to being exceptionally process-oriented, and not for a good reason. I was in the room and it was explained clearly to us that the external "messaging" for our new processes was to improve morale and efficiency; the actual reason, however, was to determine who was messing up, and to be able to call them out and shame them for their mistakes. There is no culture of lifting each other up, it's all about shaming people for any mistake, and hoping that eventually, they'll leave. Those who put clients first and do whatever it takes to get the work done and keep the client happy are belittled and yelled at in team meetings. Don't believe the hype on the positive reviews, especially those that are comically low on details and seem to come in batches at the same time. Employees are asked to leave positive reviews because Madison can't bring in good talent based on the actual reviews.

Pros

1. Great employees that are really friendly. 2. Free coffee and they give you a party for your birthday. 3. Located next to Bryant park so it is nice that you can walk and eat outside.

Cons

1. Ecommerce Manager title is a HUGE stretch for the title. More like advanced data entry. There is nothing about managing ecommerce. 90% of the job is fixing descriptions. This is not a joke. You literally fix descriptions all day/everyday. 2. Management team is never around. Management only shows up once a month and "works from home" the rest of the time. Very political management style. Makes everyone uneasy and afraid to lose their job. When they are there all they do is talk about relationships and personal information that has nothing to do with work and is actually pretty distracting. 3. No room for advancement. 4. They have a policy where everyone gets a set raise at the end of the year. Doesn't matter if you are a great employee or a not so great employee. Everyone gets the same no exceptions. Ironic that a company all about Incentives gives 0 incentive to go above and beyond. 5. No room for creativity. They claim to be very flexible and not micro managing. They do not personally micro manage but they have very strict processes in place that micro manage everything you do. If you have an idea there is really no one around to tell or no one ever cares to get back to you. Basically just sit there and do your job and go home. ** Overall not really a great place to work. Like i said the people that work there are great and that makes it a fun place to work but it is dead end.

Pros

With the significant amount of turnover at the company, your chances for getting hired are more probable.

Cons

Toxic infighting at the executive level, even common sense initiatives are stifled out of spite. Middle management fears any personal repercussions and will throw you under the bus before ever defending you. No new accounts in years. Still subsisting on technology they originally programmed in 1999. They are a case study in internet archaeology, dinosaurs still somehow looming in a world of less autocratic and more enlightened organizations.
