Pros

-You're going to be working with a lot of awesome people, depending on what department you work in. -Very family like atmosphere if you like that kind of thing -Awesome insurance! If nothing else, this is the selling point of working here. You only get insurance for working a full time position however, and they are slowly weeding out positions that offer that. -They will help pay for your courses if you go into library science! Such a cool initiative that helps a lot of people grow with the company! -Great starter position! If you are coming out of college and looking for a job, or if you are a highschool student looking to start working in libraries, this is a great option!

Cons

-If you work a part time position, prepare to barely make enough to survive, and full time positions dont pay much either. -Managers have diff styles and leniencies, which leads to unfair crack downs on some employees where other employees do the exact same thing and it's not a problem. HR doesnt see this as a problem. - Differing opinions are not welcome here. Libraries tend to work like that because they've had the same people there for decades that refuse to see another viewpoint. In this particular library, it can lead to retaliation in sneaky ways if you're not careful. Being friends with senior management will help you immensely. -HR will find any way they can to undercut employees, and they are particularly obsessed with the sick, vacation, and personal time you have earned. Heresay from a friend that still works there is they just cut personal hours from 8 hours a year to 4 hours a year. They will help you ONLY as much as legally needed to keep themselves out of legal hot water. -Not a whole lot of chances to grow as an employee. Autonomy is kind of looked down upon, and more then likely you are heavily monitored and scheduled. It can be very demeaning. -Nepotism is a thing...

Pros

This is a place that really loves hiring college students, the library has flexible hours and the circulation desk has a variety of tasks to do. Once you get desk trained, it becomes less repetitive.

Cons

The high turnover rate in general can be frustrating, because so many people move or get full time jobs, and then there are a lot of people who aren't entirely sure what they're doing.
