Pros

Easy workload, Richmond is a great city for new folks to the industry. OK creative reputation but very traditional work.

Cons

Cliques run the office from top to bottom - the trash talk never stops. I've seen women be patronized everyday at every level. Three great female leaders left over 2 months while under qualified men got promoted. Martin - you've got a problem.

Pros

A lot of the people here are truly amazing — talented, humble, nice, inspiring. Because of that, work can be fun and it's so easy to make friends. And for families, Richmond is an exceedingly great place to live since it's so interesting and affordable.

Cons

TMA is the only place in town and DAMN do they know it. They will overwork you, underpay you, and getting a promotion is akin to scaling Everest. As many reviewers have stated, there is also definitely an A-Team, though the inner circle seems to be more defined by lifers than actual talent. If you're not in, you never stand a chance here and often the people that weren't able to break in go on to be wildly succeed somewhere else, which shows a waste of talent. They also seem to value time at Martin (as in people who've never worked anywhere else) over industry experience, which is totally insane.

Pros

Mostly nice people, great town.

Cons

Upper management doesn't admit that the agency's woes are due to the lackluster creative product. They invest time and money in building culture rather than raising the creative bar and holding the talent to it. Morale is low, and most employees feel rudderless. Many people see this as a place to "retire," so you'll find creatives who have already proven themselves and aren't hungry to do the best work of their lives. No appetite for taking risks.
