Pros

Mastery is a great place to work. There hasn't been an adult I've encountered who didn't believe in the mission and wasn't wholeheartedly committed to doing right and well by students and their families. The Mastery team believes in working for ALL students and not leaving any student behind. The team is committed to its values, and I'm excited to be part of such an incredible group of mission-aligned people.

Cons

The evaluation system and process for the NST staff are antiquated and not relevant to the people doing the work. It is time for a change.

Pros

Mastery is committed to providing all students with a variety of enrichment and post-secondary experiences. Staff love students, and its a positive place to teach/learn. Mastery is committed to developing teachers into leaders, with coaching offered, and opportunities for leadership and advancement. Competitive pay is offered. Mastery wants students to receive a rigorous education with high standards.

Cons

Data driven approach means there is less room for creativity. Schools encourage teachers only teach from curriculum and use laptops. Which while at times its important to use technology and use rigorous curriculum, their rigidity means there is little room for individual teacher creativity. Overreliance on laptops means students struggle being on task, since they play games and can escape from the work on their lap. Mastery claims to have high standards, but in practice they lack the man power to implement systems they create. This means students are inconsistently held accountable.
