Pros

5pm when you leave. Covid safe job.

Cons

Matchworks says that they care and that they do good for the community and that they value their staff. In reality however, they allow working conditions to be so terrible that multiple staff leave and they honestly do not care. It is actually their policy to never offer pay increases to staff. If you want one, it is a fight to get one - it’s as though you’re asking for an extra $20k when in reality it’s so much fight just to get an extra $2k! They say there are career development opportunities. There are not. The only other options are management, there’s nothing in between, although if you stick around long enough you’ll get promoted as there are some truely terrible managers at Matchworks who go there by tenure not by ability. Speaking of tenure, there are people who have been doing the same job for 10-15 years. I thought this was a selling point. It is not. These people have sat there day in, day out, doing the same thing for a DECADE with no promotion, no pay rise, nothing. It is a good job of you just want that - a job. A 9-5 with a crappy pay check. But, if you want growth and career, this is not the place for you. Also, you will deal with highly aggressive and drug affected job seekers that even Centrelink bans, but you will still have to sit in a small room with them. There is no concern for staff safety.

Pros

Good colleagues, supportive environment, decent pay.

Cons

Incredibly stressful work due to jobseekers on Centrelink being stressed out because their payments have been suspended - pretty constant verbal abuse from Centrelink clients. Having to deal with constant issues with Centrelink. Unresponsive Job Network representatives. Very large office, so there's often hot-desking involved and an impersonal office environment. Pay was monthly.
