MHS - a horrible place to work

Pros

There are no pros at working for MHS. Stay far away!

Cons

MHS is a horrible place to work. If you are assertive and a confident employee, management feels threatened and will stab you in the back with a smile on their faces. MHS chooses winners and losers. Don't plan on retiring from MHS. They promise you gold and you'll come out all used up. They planned obsolescence for my position before I even stepped in the door. Their little millionaires' club only cares about themselves. They don't care at all how their decisions impact lives. It's an incredibly hostile and cut throat environment. Stay far away from this company!

Pros

MHS offers a lot of opportunities for advancement - if you want to learn and can put in the work, they will give you lots of experience and promotions. The industry is growing quickly, as is the company, so lay-offs are unlikely - there is plenty of work to go around. The pay is at the high end of the expected range, and in salaried positions you will get paid your equivalent hourly rate for overtime worked.

Cons

Overtime is expected company-wide in all positions, from manufacturing to engineering to administration and HR. Working 50-60 hours/week is considered typical. You will get some weeks where you can log "just" 40 hours, but if there are too many of those, management will increase your work load. Benefit package is not very generous when you look at the details: - 2 weeks of use-it-or-lose-it vacation per year, with no increase until after 10 years of service. No carry-over is permitted, so every January you have 0hrs vacation and if you need/want time off in the first half of the year, you can take it - but you will basically carry a negative balance while you earn that time with each pay period. - Employees pay a large portion of cost for health benefits - and get health insurance with a high deductible (minimum $1000). There is a 401(k) plan, with a match - dollar for dollar for the first 3%, and then 3.5% match for 4% withholding and a maximum of 4% match for 5% or greater withholding. - Don't count on year-end bonuses for either performance or company growth, despite what corporate says. The corporate doublespeak and out-and-out lies are constant and tiresome. Don't be fooled - the company wants blind loyalty and will take everything you have to offer. In return, they will say they care about and for their employees, but do not expect more than the minimum, legally mandated support.

Pros

The money, for sure. They don't mind to pay for top talent.

Cons

This was a small company that couldn't keep up with its growth. The people that founded the company don't know what it is to manage a global company. This is the type of place where you hear frequently "this is how we've always done it". Until that mentality changes, there will continue to be challenges for those that come from larger companies.
