Good Platform, Pay Fluctuates

Pros

-Easy to understand, intuitive editor. -Joining the Partner Program is simple and they recently added more eligible countries. -Pay can be good, but it fluctuates. - A true community of writers, organic connections. - If you have a book, eBook, courses, etc you can add a CTA at the footer of each story. - Decent part-time job but try to utilize CTA/footers for more income.

Cons

-You have to be a member to join the Partner Program and earn money for your writing. Membership starts at $5. -Medium changes its algorithm a lot, so what earns well one month may change the next. -Fluctuating pay means some months you will put in a lot of hours for little pay. - This is not full-time income.

Tumultuous from day 1

Pros

Extremely flexible vacation/time off policy, competitive pay, mostly nice co-workers.

Cons

I've never been at a company with such an uncertain, ever-changing strategy. Projects were constantly prioritized and de-prioritized which was frustrating at times. Turnover was high which seemed like a red flag from day one, and my time at the company ended with a layoff. Overall it felt like working at an extremely early-stage startup rather than a company that's been around for a decade.

OK until it wasn’t

Pros

Decent pay and perks, employees are dedicated in spite of poor direction from management.

Cons

Direction of the company shifts every 6 months, and the CEO doesn’t follow through on any initiative long enough for it to work. Advancement criteria opaque.

Pros

- Really kind coworkers, with the exception of some toxic folks who are mostly leaving now - Management is working to solve company culture issues and feels like there is progress. i.e achieving gender pay parity, more diversity at a Senior level now. - Career growth - Flexible WFH / remote policy - Great benefits, including free therapy

Cons

- Can be ambiguous. Definitely still a start up environment which is not for everyone - Employees think there are lay offs / buy outs when there are not and try to spread misinformation to cause problems internally, especially after they already decide to leave

Pros

You’ll work with some of the brightest people building on a widely recognized platform used by millions of people every day. Their mission is rock solid.

Cons

The company lacks direction and is losing good employees like crazy. It’ll probably never go public but you can use it as an opportunity to learn a lot and move on to a more mature company that pays better with more modern benefits (like simple 401k matching, bonuses, etc). Leadership lacks consistent vision and doesn’t have a great ability to inspire and motivate teams.

Pros

Provides a solid layout for blogs, tracks performance in several forms, and allows writers to share their thoughts with reasonable pay.

Cons

In order to get paid, writers must be 18 years of age with a minimum of one article and 100 followers, which makes it difficult for young writers to profit from their work.
