Pros

I learned a lot. Some really amazing colleagues. Felt like they really did care about students. Benefits were ok. Beautiful campus. Former President Victor did turn the school around. Isn’t a bad job for an entry level employee.

Cons

-Three bosses in 5 years…so yea, high turnover. Only one manager was amazing, and she was fired and replaced by an executive assistant as director. Complete joke. -Stay long enough and suck up to the right people, you might just get promoted even if you don’t deserve it. -Favoritism runs rampant. So does gossip and brown nosing. Felt like high school not college. -Faculty are favored. Staff didn’t receive raises for 4 years… not due to merit, but due to a hiring/salary freeze. At the time, faculty still received raises. -Pay is on the low end. Definitely negotiate! -A lot of work…so expect to do the work of more than one person.

Going Down Hill

Pros

Use to be good. Pay was lousy but they left me alone and let me teach. No meetings, few obligations outside the classroom. All that has changed.

Cons

Stopped giving pay raises and increased our workload, not a good combination. Unfair pair discrepancies between the main campus, and the two-year school. A lot more micro-management than ever before. Unscrupulous fat cats that think its okay to give themselves 15% pay raises while making 300+k while those at the bottom end of the scale get nothing. The name of the university is Mercyhurst; it was founded by the Sisters of Mercy. They had good intentions and lived by their name. It's too bad the present administration can't do the same and show some mercy.

No space for new thinking

Pros

Cost of Living in Erie is low. Students are amazing.

Cons

Controlled by cliques who have been there more than 30 years and are not open to new thinking. Even newer administrators are very conservative in their thinking and feel threatened by a can-do attitude. Definitely not a place for entrepreneurial thinkers.
