Pros

You will find some of the kindest most passionate people on staff. ABP does amazing direct service work and should be applauded as having deep impact in the Mission. Great intentions as a whole. All direct service workers from ABP, CRE and MPN achieve amazing things on a daily basis with little resources. Exceptional staff at the entry and mid level. Extremely dedicated and hardworking. Most folks are bilingual or trilingual. It is a multicultural work place which is a huge plus. Reach of the organization is deeply impactful and they take on hard work.

Cons

Upper management is extremely self serving. Staff who are entry level (at 2-3 year range) are extremely under paid and over worked. Give folks a chance to move up if they are doing good work. Turn over rate is extremely high - with someone leaving it seems once a month. There is a lack of accountability when discussing annual bonuses upper management receives in contrast to lower tier staff. A lot of extreme favoritism - specific upper management staff have been reported for abusive language and treatment to HR by several people and there is little to no action taken as upper management are personal friends. While I was working there I saw an entire team leave due to mismanagement and no action taken to address issues. CEO makes 4x lower tier staff salaries and is known to be extremely patriarchal and verbally abusive - attempts to fire people without just cause

Pros

Line staff and clients are amazing. They pay well considering it is a non profit.

Cons

Executive team is corrupt- moving federal funds to cover over expenses. Budgets are always on the red. The executive director does not promote women or immigrants with strong accents- he's a xenophobe. His leadership team is majority white, and not representative of the community.

MEDA's finances are independently audited each year and those audits have shown no findings. We responsibly use the funds that are both donated and awarded to us through grant proposals.

Pros

Great place to learn ALOT quickly if you have the appetite for it. Affordable housing is a fascinating industry and I was delighted to liaise with some inspiring and passionate people.

Cons

A certain division of the nonprofit has no strategy or organization. They keep expanding their "projects" without enough resources to support them. When the higher level leadership within the accounting department tried to warn them, they were met with defensiveness, dismissiveness, and complete disregard. As a result, the operations kept expanding and the accounting department kept getting overstretched which made it very difficult to attract and retain talent. There was no breathing time and eventually I and just about everyone I worked with burnt out and left.
