Pros

Being a part of a historical organization, influencing changes that you can see day to day, having the ability to have creative license and the ability to manage projects. Also, there were many networking opportunities. There was much support from my team.

Cons

-The President/CEO is self focused -Intellectual capital left the organization post BTJ, now more filled with traditionalists than progressives, also the current staff has fewer relevant connections in the social justice space -It went from operating like a 21st century social justice organization to operating like a baptist church in Selma post BTJ -CEO loves to be around those less experienced than he so he can feel like the smartest person in the room -Too many demands from the top outside of their area of expertise (lack of trust of employees' skills/network/education) -Felt like we were operating in the dark, no clear objectives, kind of ambulance chased instead of tackling issues with a plan or telling people what we were doing, which was alot -Didn't go for the "low hanging fruit," which was odd -Not enough respect outside of your own team for your in demand expertise or skillset -Meddling Board of Directors members that email or call you directly, disrupting your workflow (which should not be allowed) -Lack of human resource department intervention/management
