Cons

NIO US is completely out of sync with the rest of the organization. This review is only for the San Jose location. Internally, it is often said the NIO US CEO has gone rogue and takes on initiatives that are completely out of alignment with NIO's global strategy. This has led to the onboarding of a large numbers of employees, many of whom hang in limbo as the future of their teams are uncertain. Around the water cooler, you will constantly hear employees say they don't know what they're supposed to be working on. Projects are often assigned simply for the sake of giving employees work to do. Upper management from NIO HQ has made it clear what NIO US's responsibilities are, yet NIO US continues to stray from the global plan. Within the global organization, NIO US is the whiny sibling who always demands more attention. As a result, upper management from HQ has absolutely lost all respect for the local talent. This is evident by how many upper-level employees have resigned in the past year. Only about 1/4 of the office is considered crucial to the NIO global organization. The remaining 3/4 were brought on by the local CEO in an effort to make the office feel more self-important. These teams have zero support, have zero impact, and their work is of zero relevance. If you are considering working here, make sure you know which side your team is on. Think about it this way - Why does a Chinese car company, whose cars will only be sold in China, supply chain resides in China, products are developed only to meet Chinese regulations, primary consumer market is China, and upper management is all Chinese, need an office of 300 in San Jose?
