Pros

The mission is amazing London office location is good

Cons

Working at Company NM revealed several challenges that potential candidates should carefully consider. Leadership & Direction: The organization struggles with strategic clarity and consistent decision-making. Senior leadership, including the CEO and COO, appears to lack a cohesive vision for the company's future. Decisions sometimes seem influenced by personal relationships rather than merit-based criteria, which can create inconsistencies in how policies are applied across teams. Management Style: The management approach leans heavily toward micromanagement, which can be challenging for employees seeking autonomy. There's limited trust in remote work arrangements, with a strong preference for in-office presence that doesn't always translate to meaningful collaboration. Many employees find themselves attending virtual meetings from the office, which undermines the stated goal of team building. Organizational Competence: There appear to be gaps between role requirements and actual expertise in several leadership positions. For example, some commercial directors lack deep business development experience, and certain technical leadership roles are filled by individuals without relevant technical backgrounds. Notably, the CTO who had strong credentials from larger tech companies—departed, which may indicate deeper organizational issues. Company Culture: The workplace culture has shifted over time. Long-term employees report a noticeable decline in morale and engagement. Favoritism and internal politics can impact career advancement and day-to-day operations. The emphasis on office attendance without corresponding improvements in collaboration creates frustration. Work Environment: High turnover, particularly among experienced talent, suggests challenges with retention and employee satisfaction. Job security concerns and unclear career paths contribute to an environment where many feel uncertain about their future with the company. Recommendation: Prospective employees should carefully evaluate whether this environment aligns with their work style preferences and career goals. Those who prefer clear direction, merit-based advancement, and flexible work arrangements may find this particularly challenging.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We take all feedback seriously, particularly given the tenure referenced here. However, we do not recognise this characterisation of the business as an accurate reflection of NatureMetrics today. NatureMetrics has grown significantly over the past five years in scale, capability, product maturity, and commercial traction. As any scale-up navigating growth in a turbulent environment, this is a high-paced business, and there are periods of change, We know this can be challenging. We have been deliberate about strengthening strategic clarity, leadership capability, and operational discipline as we scale. Our Executive team operates with clear governance, defined objectives, and regular Board oversight. On leadership and appointments: roles are filled based on capability, experience, and business need. As with any scaling company, leadership teams evolve over time. That evolution is intentional and focused on building the right expertise for the next stage of growth. On culture and ways of working: we expect high performance and accountability, but not politics or favouritism. We actively review engagement data, retention trends, and feedback to ensure we are creating an environment where talented people can thrive, and our recent team survey reflects improvements across the business. Our hybrid approach is designed to balance flexibility with the benefits of in-person collaboration, and we continue to refine this based on what drives impact. NatureMetrics remains deeply committed to its mission and to building a high-performing, science-led organisation capable of delivering it. That requires clarity, pace, and continuous improvement and we are confident in the direction we are heading. We appreciate all feedback and remain focused on building a strong, resilient company for the long term.

Pros

The people who work there are nice.

Cons

The management is terrible, the pay is extremely low for what the job is and there is no overtime pay. The company is reluctant to promote people and set the bar to unrealistic standards. Many in senior management don't value the lab staff despite them being the backbone of the company.

We are a recognised Living Wage Employer. Meaning that we guarantee all employees are paid at least a living wage as stated by the Living Wage Foundation. We also benchmark our salaries comparatively against other companies to ensure that we are paying in line or above market rates. However, no matter how difficult the feedback is to hear, we will always reflect and keep trying to improve as we strive to be an employer of choice.

Pros

There are some amazing, supportive staff.

Cons

Extremely toxic culture. Bullying from the top. Gossip spread around by exec level staff. Dodgy hiring/ firing practices. You will likely be underpaid and work obscene hours. You will be made to do way more than you signed up for. If you complain/ ask for help, you’ll be told you’re not managing your time effectively and it’s your fault. Even if you’re doing the job of 5 people. Most of the higher-level management here is poor in the extreme. They’re inexperienced and ineffectual and it shows.

We are sorry to hear that you felt so sad after your time with us. During the height of the pandemic, we were all remote working and working hard in difficult circumstances to keep the business going, we couldn't see how hard some people were working nor did we do a good job of keeping an eye or checking in. All I can say for sure is that if issues are raised, we do our best to resolve them in the right way as soon as possible. This year we have introduced an employee engagement survey that allows anonymous feedback to be heard, shared and acted upon, our CEO has also introduced an open-door policy. We continue to strive to be an employer of choice, through reviewing working practices, benefits, etc. No matter how difficult the feedback is to hear, we will always reflect and keep trying to improve.
