Woke company

Business outlook

Pros

1. Supportive and compassionate management that genuinely listens. 2. Feedback is valued and often leads to real improvements. 3. Collaborative and respectful work environment. 4. Great team culture with many kind, talented individuals. 5. High level of tolerance and understanding across departments.

Cons

1. The company can be a bit too WOKE at times. Expect a lot of emphasis on pronouns and progressive messaging. 2. If you're more conservative, the culture here might feel preachy or frustrating. 3. There's some hypocrisy — leadership talks a lot about inclusion and listening, but at the end of the day, profit comes first, even if it's at your expense! 4. A lot of local roles have been replaced by cheaper overseas hires, which can be discouraging for Canadian employees. 5. Salaries are on the lower end, especially considering the workload and expectations.

Thank you for your rating and positive words! It's a bit ironic that you say that our "high level of tolerance and understanding" is a great aspect of our culture, but always say that we are too "woke" (whatever that means). We strive to be good to people - inside and outside of the company. If by conservative you mean the bullying of minorities.. then yes, we are definitely not that and hopefully never will be. We side with the little gal. We protect the weaker ones. And yes, we're a company, so we need to ensure that we are profitable! This shouldn't be a surprise. :) As you know, we set our remuneration strategy to target the median for a position, given the level of capability of the person, within their country of residence. I'm very happy that we can transparently review ratings on sites like payscale and demonstrate how we set our remuneration levels. I'm thinking that you were let go earlier this year, and i'm sorry for the impact of that, but I definitely wish you the best!

A nightmare in management

Pros

If you do a good job, you can be left mainly to yourself. They like to give the illusion of an inclusive environment.

Cons

If you're looking for a workplace where morale goes to die, creativity is stifled, and genuine leadership is a myth, look no further. This company is a masterclass in micromanagement, with "managers" who excel at feigning concern while stripping their staff of all autonomy and dignity. Every task is scrutinized to an inch of its life, leaving employees feeling like cogs in a joyless, suffocating machine. The smiles on the leadership team are as plastic as their promises, and their disregard for employee well-being is palpable. This isn't a place where careers flourish; it's a revolving door where good people are chewed up and spit out, often without warning, making job security a cruel joke. Save yourself the stress, the sleepless nights, and the inevitable termination notice (or mass firing as has become their new preferred method). There are countless better places to invest your time and talent. The CEO is only interested in hiring contractors from parts of the world where he can pay them far less and leave them without benefits while firing people who genuinely do good work.

Hi there - i'm sorry that you feel negatively towards your experience with us. While it's true that we did have to perform reductions during the recent economic crisis, I'm pleased to see that we're back to a growth trajectory. As the CEO, I can tell you that I am very pleased that as a remote company, we can hire folks from around the world. As a company seeking global clients, I believe this is the right approach for us. I wish you the best in finding your next opportunity, and hope that it is a better fit.

Toxic Workplace Culture

Pros

Very organized and a clearly defined step by step based development process. With a laser focus on sales and creating edutainment and employee training.

Cons

This company is a VERY sales and money focused place. The sales guys close the deals and then it’s passed off to the development team where they are responsible to materialize whatever promises they made. Expect to time track and report whatever you do, or think about daily in 15 minute increments. Everyone works remotely so the company tracks and watches everything. If you have to go to bathroom during one of your shifts - you need to announce it to the team on the group chat, as you cannot be away from your computer and must be active every minute of the day. On top of that - whether you are highly educated in the field or not - you must do a daily quiz as an employee about adult learning theory… and if you don’t you will be called out and shamed in front of your co-workers… who are also cued up and ready to throw you under the bus to make sure the high school educated supervisor who bullies everyone is aware of everything in order to be considered a “favourite”. I’ve worked in the eLearning development industry for 20 plus years and I can easily say this was the most toxic and micromanaging place I have ever worked. I still have nightmares about it. They also hire media developers from other countries in order to pay them $500 a month and then expect ridiculous accountability for every second worked. You are a work robot - not a human, so don’t let any regular life issues interfere with your productivity.

Hi there, and thank you for your feedback! It sounds like you worked in the part of our company that does billable client projects. It's very true that we track time, as nearly every organization delivering service work does. Tracking time is never fun - ask any lawyer or accountant, and they'll tell you the same! It's also true that we do a lot of internal training, and hire folks globally since we want to represent a global client base. As a remote company, it's a great opportunity to reach global talent. It sounds like you were let go recently, which has led to some negative feelings. I'm sorry that you experienced that, but I do wish you to very best in your next opportunity.
