      Culture could be better

      Pros

      - The culture and people WERE great (see below). - The product is interesting if you’re into JAMStack - Annual company onsite event (before the pandemic) where you get to see colleagues from other locations

      Cons

      As the company grows, things are changing for the worst. - Clique culture - it’s not what you know but who you know and if you are the “loudest in the room” - Name-and-shame instead of approaching the person/team in private to solve the matters - “Superstars” that think they can do whatever they want at the expense of others - People hired from large companies are demanding / complaining for the things from their old job. Netlify is a startup with just 140+ employees, not one with thousands of employees and tens of millions dollars of revenue. The good employees that are genuinely collaborative are getting tired from all of these and many of them (at all levels) are leaving the company.

      Startup Energy in 40 hours a week

      Pros

      Smart, close-knit team, working on a new vision of the web. All employees encouraged to be developer evangelists and grow their skills in new areas. Well-loved product. Currently in growth mode, experiments abound but trajectory seems good. 1/3 remote team.

      Cons

      Team outside of founders are all recent hires.

      Pros

      Empathetic and fun people exist in management and IC levels.

      Cons

      Worst handled layoffs I’ve ever seen, software spend cut but signed new contract with COO’s former company, culture of transparency is eroding before our eyes as leaders blatantly flaunt company principles, laying off just enough people to not trigger a WARN notice then acquiring Gatsby was so icky.
