I have always preferred working for smaller companies to avoid being "just a number." The owner has always been supportive, and the management has focused on continuing education. The company pays for certifications. Training has improved much over the years given the industry standard.
Cons
Scheduling in this industry is difficult due to the dynamic nature of construction.

Family atmosphere, paid training while on the job, company pays for certifications, great learning environment, great market to work in for networking within the construction and engineering industry.
Cons
Long hours, schedule changes quickly to meet the needs of clients in the construction industry, makes it difficult to make plans sometimes.
