What are your colleagues talking about?
- Former Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Access to top professional if you are assigned to the right team
Cons
Can’t trust anything promised. Passive aggressive and blame everyone else, including the client for a lack of experience and values. Unethical resource management practices - expecting hourly employees to work overtime for free because management makes unrealistic promises to clients.

Great place if you are a hermit, terrible at everything else.

Everything is solo. Your job is to solve tickets on your own. If you enjoy multitasking, again this job is for you. You will have multiple items in flight at all times. If you enjoy working in an environment where going a whole day without any conversations is the norm, this is for you.
Cons
Onboarding is non-existent. You basically figure everything out yourself. Teamwork is not a thing. They brag saying they are all about it, but in reality there is absolutely none. Everyone requires to log hours towards specific clients. If you ask someone for guidance and they oblige, they cannot log hours towards their clients, and cannot log towards yours, and must work overtime to reach their quota. Client requests are 3 people removed, increasing the time required to complete a task. Tasks are always time boxed. The chances of going over are pretty high. There is no growth opportunity. The architects will make the design decisions and you will follow.
Continue readingThank you for your feedback. It sounds like the experience you had at One North is not the one you expected. To be transparent, we acknowledge that not everyone will be a fit for our agency, and that’s OK. To be a successful technologist at One North, you have to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and passionate about solving technology challenges in a pragmatic and consultative fashion. This requires frequent communication and close collaboration with your team of multi-disciplinary colleagues. Our internal teams and processes are designed to promote this. To further set our technologists up for success, and ramp them up to do great work, we have built and continue to refine a robust onboarding experience for new hires. We’re very proud of this program, and its accompanying curriculum, which immerses new team members into the agency and exposes them to our great people, and the deep expertise they’ve developed over decades in the space. We take ongoing management across the technology team very seriously and have a high-frequency cadence of both individual check-ins and team meetings that continue to promote collaboration and development once the onboarding period is over. We have also created a shared knowledge base that the entire technology community contributes to, as well as extensive documentation, to help support both new and existing team members. We take great pride in the culture we’ve built and know that this environment helps our technologists develop and refine their skillsets, accelerate their careers, and learn from their multi-disciplinary teammates and clients. But, again, we know that this environment isn’t for everyone. We wish you the best in the future and hope you’re able to find an opportunity that better aligns with your strengths and expectations. — Jeff Hirner, Executive Director, Founder

Pros
One North is a rare breed - an agency that truly is focused on strategy, and has invested deeply in a multi-disciplinary practice. From working on top tier clients to coworkers that are absolutely brilliant, I couldn't be happier at One North. The leadership is committed to the growth of its employees. And I'm working under the best manager I've ever had in my career. Pay is in the top bracket of my experience and market.
Cons
Onboarding needs some work. And while pay and bonus structure is generous, benefits could use some investment.

Worst Management I've Ever Experienced
9 Dec 2021 - Senior Account Manager in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great people who are knowledgeable and are open to collaboration.
Cons
Management. It's the worst I've ever experienced in my 10+ years of employment. There is not adequate training. There is no ongoing learning sessions or anything that could be fruitful for growing client relationships. I found many in leadership positions would sit silently watching someone else fail only to gossip about it later. There is absolutely no mentorship and quite frankly not sure what mentorship management could even offer. There are a number of managers who are unprofessional when it comes to working with people from different cultures, which made for a number of awkward situations.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with One North wasn’t great. We are committed to providing an environment where all of our employees feel included, supported and set up for success, and it sounds like we missed the mark with you. Over the last year, we have made changes and progress in a number of areas you call out. First off, we have completely revamped the Client Services team to pare down scope of the role and offer more focus. We have added additional steps and support with regards to transition between sales and Client Services/Partnership so that communications are more pronounced. We’ve taken advantage of TEKsystems’ management, leadership and skills programs—many of which have mentorship components to them. Finally, we have embraced TEKsystems' robust DEI efforts; developed our own DEI working group and set goals around our hiring practice. We are already seeing the benefits of these efforts and are excited to continue to make great progress on these fronts in 2022. — Jeff Hirner, Executive Director, Founder

Pros
Some highly collaborative, good natured folks trying to improve practice areas.
Cons
Just too many managers who lack experience setting people/projects up to fail seem unable to listen to those who do.

A Fantastic Company that Encourages Career/Personal Growth
30 Jul 2015 - Senior Account ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- I have been with One North for almost 5 years. During that time, I've had the opportunity to explore varied and diverse interests as opportunities became available. They are fantastic at being flexible to allow employees to grow and learn. - I have never had difficulty communicating with Leadership. Quite the opposite - I've never experienced anything but an open-door policy, and my questions and concerns are addressed productively. - If you're a person who is hungry for career growth, and look for opportunities at One North - they'll be made available to you over time. People have risen from Coordinator positions up to Leadership over the years. - One North has kept my interest by varying my responsibilities and giving me new and challenging projects. I am never bored. - One North has some amazing clients. I truly count some of my clients as some of my personal friends, and look forward to seeing them regularly to catch up. - Leadership checks in with me regularly to make sure I'm happy and challenged in my current role. I love the proactive approach.
Cons
- Like any organization and any job anywhere, there are days that are tough, and sometimes difficult conversations to be had. I don't count this as a con against One North, but rather a facet of client-facing employment anywhere.

You are rewarded for hard work. We have a very passionate group of people at One North. If you work hard and prove your dedication, you will get where you want to be, in terms of job responsibilities and career development. One North has a highly collaborative environment where people form very close relationships with one another. This is a great place to work if you are junior to mid-level in your career. Being a relatively small business, you wear many hats and get exposure to things outside of your job description. It is a great place to learn, in an environment full of people who want you to succeed.
Cons
If you want to be guaranteed a 9am-5pm job, One North is not for you. The works comes in flows and some weeks are busier than others. The great news is, when you do have to work late, you're not alone. Team support is never-ending and One North leadership does a great job tracking their team's work-life balance.
