Be wary, this company is not as it seems

Pros

As an employee who worked at this company for several years and through a lot of transition, this one is hard to answer. Most of these reviews were written at a time where OMG was truly a great place to work. Leadership cared about employees. Leadership cared about the customers. Leadership cared about the mark it was leaving on an industry. If you are an ex-athlete, white male looking for a company that fits a traditional, bland corporate structure, then this may be a good place for you.

Cons

When PE money gets involved, companies often change and this one did too. The new OrderMyGear publicly promotes “Team is everything”, but the only team the CEO is referring to is his executive team. Employee concerns are often minimized or dismissed, specifically as it relates to race related micro aggressions and blatant racism in the workplace. The professional growth opportunities are incredibly limited. There is a much greater emphasis on getting the business ready to sell than employee development, which means lots of outside hires. Communication is very poor. OrderMyGear loves shallow buzz words, and employees are often left confused as to what the goals are. There are some good benefits, but there is shame in using them. An executive team member consistently and publicly shamed an employee for taking paternity leave. Lots of “fire drills” or quick demands of employees that don’t amount to anything. Generally easy work, but anxiety ridden workplace.

Bullies and intimidation shrouded in swag and new tech

Pros

employee perks outside of traditional benefits: food (when in office), swag with logos, up-to-date tech. Trendy office space, casual dress code.

Cons

OrderMyGear lures potential hires in with a trendy office, casual environment, and perks. But the positivity is only surface level. Entry level employees are expected (not explicitly) to work long hours with little to no pay increases, and upward mobility is not based on merit, but your social standing with current leadership. Execs use all of the right buzzwords that job hunters want to hear, especially that they are "open to feedback." This is entirely false, and frequently when employees gave feedback, they were faced with retaliation. This included feedback about racist behavior, harassment, and blatant sexism. The CEO (Dave Dutch) had a monthly prize wheel that contained a potential prize labeled "Dutch Touch," and when employees expressed their discomfort regarding this "prize", he laughed it off, insinuating that the $100 that came with the mandatory hug made it okay. OMG cares much more about how it looks than what it does. The biggest focus of the company is the newest logos, the right fonts, the hip appearance of the office and its employees. For a small company of <150 employees, the disproportionately large executive staff are treated like kings. Exec members go on expensive luxury retreats, they use company funds for meals multiple times a week, and employ and promote family members while qualified candidates are left in the dust. The company looks down on its downtown neighbors, and talks poorly of their customers behind their backs. For COVID layoffs in March 2020, the company cut most of their staff that are not white, including every Black woman at the company. This was following weeks of certainty from leadership that the company was fine. Covid layoffs were day-of, and when later rounds of lay-offs took place they continued to lay off employees with zero notice. Remaining staff was presented with a slide of images of former, now unemployed, co-workers that resembled an "In Memoriam" presentation. I am sure the company was at one time great, that it was fun and exciting to work at. Since the installation of Dave Dutch as CEO, the company has a culture of bullying, favoritism, and an old boys club. Most of the company's original team members (if not all), have either been pushed out or have left in frustration, and with good reason. I do not recommend OrderMyGear.

Pros

There are some really great people at OMG. Cool office. Flexibility.

Cons

Very low pay. Always promises of raises but they rarely come through. Very hard to move your way up in this organization - no clear growth path. Very minimal benefits. Extreme diversity issues that have been brought up time and time again yet fall on deaf ears. Working long hours with lots of expectations and not being compensated accordingly.
