Pros

Great mission. They do good work, but it's all hampered by internal drama.

Cons

Extremely toxic work environment. Bullying, gossip and cliques are rampant and go ignored by supervisors. sometimes the leaders are the ones bullying. Racism is rampant - with leadership and with staff. Black people specificalyy are not safe at OI. staff will coordinate rumors, complaints and lies about staff that they don't like to get them to quit or get them fired. No one there is interested in inclusion. They are interested in competitions of how they've been oppressed and are selectively outraged and offended by microaggressions. i.e. if a white person committs a miccroaggression, they are all forgiven. But a POC? forget about it.. The abysmal pay (yes, even after the union contract) is just an insult to professionals. The culture is terrible. It's always staff against management and nobody cares. They feed the conflict on both sides. The union should unite people, but instead it just feeds problems with staff and sustains the us vs. them attitudes. This place is just filled with awful people who really enjoy being awful to each other, and then playing the victim when someone does the same thing to them. DEI staff is only interested in telling everyone how they are racist (they are) but inclusion is not talked about. ever.the point is just to make people feel bad which didn't help the racism go away. it just made everyone feel worse and made conflicts worse . Making people feel welcome is not on anyone's agenda You are on your own. If you start work there, make sure you have a good therapist.

Pros

Benefits are pretty good Coworkers are motivated Organization's mission is venerable

Cons

Inadequate safety measures Complaints to management fall on deaf ears Upper management more interested in maintaining the image of an altruistic organization working for the public good than taking care of the employees and volunteers that do all the work to make that happen Whistleblowers ignored or terminated Pay is lower than it should be and management relies on turnover to avoid addressing this

Outside In does take safety seriously and has taken steps to improve our responses to employees. We are reviewing our pay practices and benefits. We acknowledge that we need to do a better job at communicating to employees about what is happening behind the scenes so that they know we are being responsive and that their concerns are not falling on deaf ears.
