It is always hard letting someone go, but invariably it’s the result of poor attitude or low performance. In the main, if someone is showing effort and decent attitude, we will keep them well longer than industry standard, usually at considerable loss to our income. A big part of showing a good attitude is showing up for work on time and certainly on the days you are scheduled. It is difficult to imagine any company not requiring at least this effort. It is obvious to anyone who recruits at PFP that we offer extensive orientation and ongoing training. It is just a fact of life here and to claim otherwise is actually kind of silly. Most people are surprised how our model specifically does not include anything close to micro management - not even listening to phone conversations. We do watch new employees very closely and do require basic call metrics. However, as soon as your performance moves into the upper 1/3 of the company, we are not concerned about call numbers, but rather about activity and profitability. Certainly we would be remiss if we did not watch new employees. How else could we give constructive feedback and training to address relevant issues? We’ve built a 20 year model that rewards success and thankfully the large majority of our recruiters stay with us for years. No profession, job, in fact no company is right for everyone. The truth is that for some, it becomes manifestly clear that they simply do not have the requisite skills to call themselves a successful recruiter.
