Never had the important stuff figured out

Pros

People. That’s it. There used to be amazing people who worked here. The kind that makes you want to level up. Unfortunately, most have left by choice or by force. I used to feel proud and lucky to be a part of something special. This feeling alone drove me to work harder and dedicate myself to the company. Too bad they killed off that energy/culture. That was priceless.

Cons

Lack of career development This was the biggest issue and continues to be a challenge. There is no clear direction. Career ladders are nonexistent, especially if you’re in a newer team. It’s one thing to be flexible and create new roles but it’s irresponsible to not plan for proper development just because you need someone to fill in a role in the moment. Teams are constantly changing without long term plans in mind and junior employees are the ones that suffer the most. Lack of transparency Many things were promised but never delivered. After the acquisition and the announcement to merge brands, many asked about a potential layoff in May 2023 during an AMA. This was a day after a conference that cost so much money and provided minimal value other than bringing the global offices to Toronto (during a recession when we’re missing targets already). Abi said there would be no layoffs as she didn’t see duplicates in functions. End of September 2023 was the beginning of layoffs due to “redundancy.” When called out during the first AMA after the layoff, Abi denied having promised such things. The May AMA was not recorded and no virtual participation was allowed. It was for those that were in person and there were 50+ people that heard her say there will be no layoffs. It’s not a surprise that CEOs lie to protect a company’s best interest but it just doesn’t sit well when someone goes on a lengthy speech about being transparent but then lie in the same breath. Inconsistent training/onboarding Each round of hires get different onboarding and training. That’s because they’ll ask anyone to train new employees without giving them the tools and guidelines to use when training someone. I’ve been tasked to onboard and train new employees a couple of times without proper notice. This obviously led to a poor experience for both parties involved.

Pros

Good office perks, good vacation perks.

Cons

Management has no clue what they are doing, they treat the company as a place to make room for the friends they like not the people that work hard. The software has a lot of issues and they lose a lot of customers. Zero transparency

Pros

literally nothing at all if you come with any experience.

Cons

no desire whatsoever to update anything in the company or establish processes. no leadership, especially among c-suite. everyone is inexperienced, presumptive, and rude. they'll be incredibly condescending and treat you like a child if they think you aren't getting it, but make no effort to actually coach. your training and onboarding is entirely dependant on a 19 year olds goodwill and whether or not they want to be your friend. people move roles all the time and there is no separation between duties. it creates so much confusion and no one knows who is responsible for what. women don't get as many opportunities as men, and women are expected to be obedient and subservient. the men can treat you like garbage and HR will just shrug their shoulders at you, but if you stand up for yourself then suddenly you're receiving negative performance reviews out of nowhere with no examples or context of what exactly is wrong. they claim they want more processes, but have fired everyone in the last year who has tried to put any together. not a friendly place for neuro-diversity. everyone is expected to be on the same wave or you're "not a good fit". HR will claim to offer support, but nothing you tell them is confidential and will get offended if you say anything critical at all about the company. expect everyone to know your business. co-president is an abusive, gaslighting egomaniac who will call you outside your working hours just to convenience him. he will also make the office a hostile environment for you if you do not allow him to bully you into cutting corners for him. salaries are much lower than the industry standard, and they mostly hire new-grads who don't know their rights or have no experience. the only reason the product does so well is because they're partnered with amazon AE's. if they didn't get those referrals, they wouldn't be considered a leader in the industry. promotions are based on nepotism and favouritism. if you brown-nose the c-level execs, you can basically do whatever you want with no repercussions. they don't care about accountability. they just want someone to blame when something goes wrong, so most people hide their mistakes. if you try to own up to something and come up with a resolution, then they'll hold it over your head until you quit or get fired. mistakes are never forgiven. literal temper tantrums when something internal needs to change, and the c-level execs just let is happen. most leadership makes the mistake of assuming that being condescending is the same as being constructive. it's like working for that 16 year old manager you had in high school. there is no transparency on performance or business needs. you are left guessing, and if something is wrong you'll be in for a nasty surprise.

Pros

The working team still has a lot of passionate, hard-working and energetic members. Environment is pretty flexible on a hybrid model; despite some benefits slowly being taken away.

Cons

OVERALL: Has been the worst, mis-managed SaaS company I've worked for to date; with 9 years of experience in the bank. It's definitely lost its way after multiple acquisitions and lots of changes; leading to a very volatile unstable environment. Overall lots of benefits and culture of this company has been lost. MISMANAGED Management definitely does not have their priorities in order. The company invests heavily in executive travel, dinners and discretionary spend while laying off the team multiple times. All while jet setting executives around the word and getting the previous CEO a rental in a luxury Toronto for visits. Despite saying there will be no layoffs in public forums, the company has little/no controls around funding the lavish life of management. MANAGEMENT Management overall lacks transparency and demonstrates very little leadership in their leading of the organization. They make temporary promises in public forums that they cannot keep or later go back on. My role worked closely cross-functionally with leadership; and it was evident that experience was lacked in many of the C-suite roles. A result from fast un-deserved promotions from the toxic environment that has taken over the company. OPPORTUNITIES The company has little/no development plans for employees; no goal setting or no feedback process. Promotions (and hires) seem to be on nepotism and who ever is in the 'boys club'. Very little based on actual merit or experience or knowledge in the field. Hence lots of unqualified and inexperienced people in many senior roles in which then snowballs to the many issues it faces today. BIPOC For a company that's so driven on 'innovation' and being the forefront of trends; the company is terribly represented in all levels when evaluating diversity and BIPOC. Evident in all levels, you'll see the lack of BIPOC.
