Pros

I know how hard it can be sorting through reviews while looking for a job. Most of them are filled with so much emotion that it is hard to tell if the review is honest or if it was just written by strongly-opinionated employee. I hope that this review can give you a real look into Pixi Beauty without getting into my personal feelings. There are some pros within the Pixi Beauty walls, and those pros lie solely in the company's few benefits (even though they do not compare to similar companies or to their rivals). If all you care about is health care and $125 worth of makeup every month, then maybe Pixi is the place for you. Please keep in mind that there is no 401K.

Cons

Let's start with the people that started the company. The owners are located out of the country, so if you are looking for a tight knit family-feel, you aren't going to get it here. When they are in town they ignore 90% of the office, and only give their time to their long-term employees. The President who is supposed to be in office is rarely ever there, leaving a group of inexperienced managers to run the office. Pixi Beauty is filled to the brim with negative energy. The majority of employees come in and spend most of their day either complaining about their work or complaining about their fellow employees. The majority of the negativity definitely comes from the managers, who have created cliques within their specific workspaces instead of working as a cohesive unit. Often managers can be found yelling at each other in the middle of the office. Promotions in the office are typically undeserved, and instead go to "friends of the family". Managers often have no idea what they are doing and are quick to blame other workers for their mistakes. There is a high turnover rate and a lack of respect for employees. There is special treatment to certain employees because of their relationship to the higher ups while leaving employees who were either in need of more support or more recognition in the dark. The company tries to give the impersonation of a close "family-oriented" office, even naming the team "Team Awesome", but there are no examples of this past the name. I, of course, am just one opinion on the matter, but I cannot recommend steering clear of Pixi Beauty enough. There is nothing here for you, for your career, or for your sanity. Avoid this place and find a home at company that will treat you like you deserve to be treated.

Pros

The makeup is pretty good.

Cons

The people working here fall into one of 3 categories: 1. Very Inexperienced 2. People who never worked anywhere else but in this very dysfunctional environment and who want everyone to adapt to this crazy way of doing business 3. A handful of experienced people who have wilted and just tolerate chaos Phrases that Pixi management understands: 1. Smoke Break: Yes, they know it well and take several a day for at least a 1/2 hour 2. “Team Building” events: They like to use this a deflection when you ask about all of the horrible Glass Door reviews. (No, getting out of work 2 hours early to go to a team building event does not make up for the other six hours of torture). The last thing I want to is to see these faces outside of these four walls. 4. Overtime: Nevermind that you got there on time and were in your chair working for an two hours before most people rolled in. They will still expect you to stay late EVERY SINGLE NIGHT to finish a deadline that they failed to give you early in the day because they were still in bed. Phrases that Pixi management don’t understand: 1. Deadline: Ask when something is due and you are met with blank stares 2. Process or Procedure: They don’t know what it is and they don’t want to know what it is. 3. Teamwork: It is every man for himself. Group 2 above won’t let you in on how things are done because they are embarrassed that they have failed to institute any processes whatsover. And they are threatened by anyone who even questions the absurdity of how it is being run. The left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Advice to EMPLOYEES: Group 1: If you take the job, don’t stay for longer than a year. Get it on your resume and move on. Nothing that you learn here will apply to any other job. 2. Group 2: Don’t misrepresent what is going on here to new candidates: Work, life balance is not characterized by late nights, constant chaos, and in-office bickering and backstabbing. Group 3: If you like your job or can even barely tolerate it, don’t leave it to come to herei. You will regret it within the first week. The real reason for this review is a cautionary tale to anyone who might be thinking of making a change. Don't do it.
