Pros

Small teams allow you to learn a lot while working with a team. Food, snacks, drinks and fun outings at all offices. Opportunity to travel to other offices annually. Continuing education or conference credits annually. Pandering is rewarded.

Cons

Top-down, but flat org structure Not enough promotion, growth opportunity, or internal career path. Good ideas are absorbed into larger ones and top people take credit. Originators aren't rewarded for their initiatives. Pandering is rewarded.

I'm going to disagree with this review respectfully, and here's why: 1. Instapage has promoted 14% of the company in the past year alone and given raises to 53% of our employees. 2. Due to our fast growth, 80% of our employees were hired in only the past 24 months, and it seems unreasonable to expect that there is an immediate upward trajectory for every position, every year. 3. You cannot have both a top-down and flat org structure simultaneously. 4. Our priorities are created with considerable input from our employees, and we welcome new ideas at any time, from product to customer success. Our leadership always solicits questions, feedback, and data to help guide decision making. 5. Good ideas are likely absorbed into larger ones as that's what teamwork looks like. You are correct that we don't take one person's view and move it forward without the team having a chance to add to it. 6. We do not give credit for other people's ideas and frequently praise individual contributions. If you saw a particular issue or didn't feel appreciated enough, our management was never made aware. 7. I don't know why you would have pandering as both a pro and a con. However, we absolutely do not reward pandering. We reward hard work, taking personal ownership, teamwork, and informed decision making. Finally, we do not have an "exodus" and have a turnover rate of only 7% in the past 30 months. It is not just ordinary for an early-stage startup to see a handful of early employees leave as the company matures. Every one of the few employees who have recently moved on did so because they were recruited by companies like Google, Uber, Infusionsoft, etc. or had a personal issue to deal with. Since one of our core values is to "Improve Lives," I'm happy for those who are now working at great companies like these. It also goes to show that Instapage is both hiring great people and growing successfully enough to attract tier 1 recruiters to our talent pool. I do regret that you found Instapage a poor fit for you individually. However, I wish you the best of luck throughout your career moving forward. Thank you.

Pros

- The vast majority of people are nice, hard-working, and well intentioned people. Made up almost exclusively of younger folks, early in their career who are hungry to learn and willing to help each other out. - Work/Life balance is good - Interesting opportunity as company continues to transition to Enterprise offering - strong name recognition in future job market

Cons

I think the extremely high rating here on Glassdoor and the CEO's long-winded responses to all criticism is a good window into life at Instapage. This is a critical review of the company for sure, to which I highly recommend anyone considering a position with the future to reach out to an alumni for an honest assessment of the company. - leadership does not trust employees, taking away WFH prior to COVID/quarantine, as one simple example - the long term strategy of the company changes drastically quarter to quarter - favoritism is rampant, predominantly in an effort to appease the leadership team who are ultimately yes men to the CEO - compensation is low for San Francisco

Thank you for this review. I will have to agree with you on a few key points. The high reviews on Glassdoor and my detailed responses are a great window into our culture here. I fully support reaching out to alumni for perspective. The vast majority of 400 employees we have hired have done/are doing a fantastic job, advancing their careers, and are therefore quite satisfied based on internal surveys. Furthermore, just as I take the time to respond to posts like these, I run the company with transparency, honesty, integrity, and to the best of my abilities. I am always learning and working to improve. I would also agree that we have a great work/life balance and that our people are nice and incredibly hard-working. I can't entirely agree with some of the other points that seem to be influenced by the unfortunate circumstances that led to eliminating this design position. - Leadership absolutely trusts employees as long as they meet their quarterly OKR's, participate in meetings, are kind to others, and provide useful feedback. WFH was not eliminated before COVID. However, we did alter when/how it could be used based on feedback. Nonetheless, we have now been WFH for the past 9 months and will be executing at least 2 days WFH per week, post-COVID. - We do not implement favoritism that goes beyond promoting those who work the hardest, have the best results, and are nice people. Doing so would be counterintuitive to our goals as a company and my own personal motivations to succeed. - Compensation is not low at any of our offices, with an average base starting salary of over $110,000 and a total package of well over $200,000 in San Francisco, including benefits and stock options. Again, it is unfortunate that this job had to be eliminated, and I respect your decision to be critical of the company. I will always respond accordingly.

Pros

You get all of the perks you see in most startups, and then some. Instapage has snacks, catered lunch, and good healthcare. What really counts? The people. You will work with amazing people that are eager to learn, excited to grow, and are taking on big problems that need to be solved in this industry. Instapage is also in growing industry where you can truly make an impact. They give you the opportunity to really have ownership over your work and do big things. As a company situated across the globe, you have the opportunity to work with people from Poland, Romania and several other places where there are remote employees. This is a true startup and you can see the impact of your work in big ways within the product, in posts, and at conferences.

Cons

You may work hard and you may do great things, but the likelihood you'll see those achievements rewarded in career growth are slim. Instapage might answer this with some statistics from how they've promoted people at the company, but it might be good to look at a team breakdown for this before relying too hard on this. That being said, you will have the opportunity to grow in ways that you cannot at larger companies - you just may have a hard time seeing this reflected in your title or pay. The loudest voices win. The loudest voices in the room are often the ideas that go to production. If you rely on the mantra "the best ideas win" you might have to find another strategy to get your ideas across while working at Instapage. This is a true startup. Things are messy and projects change fast. You have to be flexible and quick on your toes or you will be frustrated and fall behind. Things are not documented well because often there is not time to document in a way that people could reference. The work from home policy is a little frustrating and unclear. Vacation time is pretty flexible but it seems that within the SF office there is not a lot of trust from senior management that the employees were actually working from home.
