- Much of the Director level is comically inept and toxic. They circlejerk as if they were all geniuses while everyone else laughs at them quietly behind their backs - Managers cow to directors and have been trained to be Yes men - VPs discipline Directors in front of their team; employees get punished for taking initiative; and several Directors simply don't have the technical skills to do their job let alone coach a team... Their teams know it, but their superiors don't. A common refrain is "This is how Director X said to do it", which is acknowledged with a knowing smile - The VP tier, some of whom are competent, seem to have no idea what's happening on the ground - Politics are thick. Everyone knows they're on a sinking ship. Rather than innovate, they're too busy building empires and rearranging the deck chairs - Absolutely no training. You're just supposed to know. - If you're looking to learn bad habits, this is the organization for you. They do everything wrong, from technical architecture to Agile Scrum. And since they refuse to pay for training, it never gets better. The organization has roughly a second year university level of understanding of just about everything they do

In the 3 years I spent at Postmedia, no one on my team (or any others) received a raise. We were left out of Christmas parties put on by the sales team and upper management. We were micro-managed and treated like children, and any ideas or suggestions were shot down. It was a very toxic environment, where management picked on their employees, made them feel like they were never doing a good job, and there was rarely ever any praise for the good work you did do. There is an extreme amount of turnover in the company, because they don't treat their staff with respect. I asked for learning opportunities and the chance at working in another department to learn and grow, and was never granted the opportunity. I switched departments near the end of my time there, due to the need of a third person to cover workload. And then a few months later was let go due to "lack of work for 3 people". They are losing staff left and right, and the remaining staff is struggling under the workload. My position has since been filled in the last month, instead of me being able to keep my role, or get transferred to another position in the company.
